Interesting file size

  • I came across this in Windows Explorer. Not sure why it appears to have some kind of overflow for a file of only about 1MB

    File size error

(Sorry if the obfuscation/anonymization was too much)

  • 304423992 isn't even near a binary power; the closest is 2^28 = 268435456.  Weird!

Ironically that occured to me as well. It's a really weird number.

Since there's a minus sign in front of it, what does it look like in twos-complement?

It should still be close a power of two; e.g., a signed 32-bit integer represents 2^31 values on either side.

304423992 in hex is 12252438, which is slightly interesting since there is no A-F characters.  But it doesn't look like it would be similar to one of those [0x01, 0x02, 0x04, 0x08, 0x16] mistakes we see around here every so often.  Shrug.

  • I never noticed, until seeing it in another language, that the new Windows Explorer has two menus named "View" basically right next to each other-- huh! (Well, in English, one is named "view" and the other "views", but still weird.)

Also, Zoeken sounds like a special move from Street Fighter.

    I never noticed,

The menu bar is hidden by default.

Is it irony that Cracked put "funny" in a URL for one of their lame-ass articles?

You ironed the screenshot? By any chance are the keys on your keyboard all warped and melty? I'm wondering if you might have misinterpreted the ubiquitous "press any key" messages.
