Lenovo Australia never ceases to amaze me with their ineptitude...

  • Lenovo here in Australia always seem to be doing something funky on their website... prices are ridiculous, items are missing or have dumb names, and so on. I fail to see how such things can slip through, but they do, and yet I still buy from them (probably for the lulz).

Anyhow, here are some of the more amusing ones (links are images).

$8,800,716.10 for a new computer? What a bargain! (And if you went in and had a look at the systems, they did start at that price. I think business may have been down a bit that day. Just a little.)

So... if we go prices alone, Celerons outrank Core 2 Quads now. That's news to me.

For an extra $10,990, we will give you!

And as a bonus WTF... I am eluded as to what actually happened here with this SQL server.

(And yes, I do mean the tag, it took about half an hour to figure out how to do a line break)

  • The exchange rate is all over the place...

  • Well they seem to have fixed it now anyway. Prices appear sane. Though it is free to upgrade the 250GB HDD to 320GB.

I still buy my computers and parts from MSY: at least you can trust that their website always looks horrible.

Clearly it's gone away. On vacation (holiday) perhaps.

Some of the screendumps are a couple of weeks old... and the free upgrade is surprising, usually their definition of free is a couple of dollars.

I've always suspected that that look (as also seen e.g. on that Norwegian site mentioned before) is at least partly deliberate.  It says "We're so cheap, we don't even waste money on hiring a web designer."  It probably appeals to a certain set of customers who don't care what the site looks like as long as they get the lowest price, or at least think they do.

I was going to link to the local equivalent, but it seems they actually redesigned their site some years ago and it almost looks good now.  Although you can still see the telltale signs of the clean outsourced design slowly but inevitably losing ground in its struggle against hamfisted company staff wielding HTML editors.

For some balance, I'll note that as an inhouse staff person I've often fixed up absolutely atrocious nonstandard HTML generated by outsourced so-called web designers, and sometimes even got it to validate.

  • Do you have a fetish for LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG titles ?
