It needs a close button

  • From our home grown ticket application, developed in Oracle Forms 6i:

The "Close Window" button works as you would think, yet the built in one does not. Yet in all the other windows in this app, the normal, built in one works. Being that this app is for our own Dept, I believe that the user and the developer are kind of the same person.

  • Probably works on the typical manager flow chart: "Do people know how to use or can be trained to use the current app? If so, will updating the app cause more sales? If so update, else ignore."

We have some products which are based around the same lines. Yes, it would be nice to remove some WTFs in them, but since people are not complaining (at least, not enough of them to worry about) and the prediction is that it will not increase sales of those products, the changes get placed into the "Todo sometime in the future if a developer becomes bored" pile, which normally means: Never, as I've never seen a bored engineer in the four years I've been there.

    Engineers don't get boredom.

    They're carriers.

  • The good old "Close window" button, how else are you going to save changes when the window is closed?

Almost as idiotic as a "Back" link on all pages of your web site.

One of those using JavaScript, one of those using PHP sessions or one of those static ones leading you to a page the site thinks you must have been on before?

Filed under: Which one is most stupid?

    One of each?

This is what we have, we also have a URL parameter called ReturnTo which is useful for this purpose (and redirecting).
