Count some WTF's

  • Account locked out

1-) WHY does a user "userid" exist?

2-) And why is it enabled?

2-) HOW did it became locked...

  •  What happens if "User must change password at next login" and "User cannot change password" are both checked?

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

From memory, what you'd expect; the user cannot login.

you can't, checking one disables the other

  • WTF 4: You used "2 -" twice

  •  In that case it's an interface WTF as checkboxes shouldn't modify the state of other checkboxes without some obvious visual cues that it might (group boxes etc.)

They don't change the checked state of other checkboxes, they disable them so they can't be checked. That's a pretty obvious visual cue! You cannot check one without unchecking the other.

1-) WHY does a user "userid" exist?

Somebody created it, maybe as a test user

2-) And why is it enabled?

    to test something?

2-) HOW did it became locked...

Password wrong X number of times as defined by policy.

Probably a "tribal knowledge" account that multiple people use (these exist a lot at my job), created when the original user was asked to enter a "UserId" and typed it literally. Then, one user changed the password. Finally, another user who was unaware of the change tries to login with the old password, causing the account to become locked.

  • I noticed the calendar does not appear to be in English

No they don't. You can happily enable both options, but Apply/OK results in a message box saying that these options cannot be selected together.

For christ's sake, I hope you're running ADUC from a workstation. Dutch versions of Windows Server kill a puppy every time you log in.

Pfew. And with the number of times you'll have to reboot that crap,  puppy's will go extinct in no-time.

    Puppy's what will go extinct?

     Puppy's will, obviously.

    Indeed, english server;

    and english workstation; running aduc

but somehow some stuff got translated into dutch(belgian) with some servicepack or so....

in the meantime one of my older collegues mentionned  the reason the userid user existed:

back in the days when they migrated from mainframe  to windows; some person generated a report with the "to be migrated users"

this report had a header; indicating what each column contained.

the user userid has been created by not eliminating the first row when "bulk creating" AD-accounts...

nobody ever logged in with it. ;as far as we know.

the password should be something alike "CUR_MFR_PASSWD"; but exact spelling is lost in history

The meaning of your words indicates a reasonably illuminated mind rather than a SpecateSwampoid brain, thank god, but I'm curious what the matter with your keyboard is to have it output semicolon instead of commas.

    It's like, "Puppy's Bar" or "Puppy's Deli".

If they keep having those server problems, they'll be out of business in no time. Going "extinct", if you will.

  • On Belgian Azerty the semicolon is next to to the comma. And even with an English OS, setting the culture to something else will translate the dates (Japanese dates are fun).

    Replace Adminstrator, try again.
