Firefux 3.6
-
Can anyone with Firefox 3.6 and a flickr account please look up their friends page?
Expected result: sudden crash of FFX
If it does not crash, then I must divine the differences between your machine and the three totally different systems here (home, work, mother) where Firefox reproducibly crashes on the flickr friends page. This shit is annoying.

I assume you mean this: http://www.flickr.com/people/belgariontheking/contacts/
I get no crash.
WinXP SP2, pretty new laptop (delivered this year).

Ah, no, I mean the page with your contacts' recent updates, i.e. the one you get when you click Contacts in the main menu.
I thought I had traced it to a localization issue, all three Firefoxes being Dutch. But the English version fixed nothing, except:
- the flickr contacts page loaded once after the english reinstall, then never again.
- in Safe mode, another page that fucked FFX would stop fucking, but still the contacts page crashed.
- with all plugins manually disabled, the contacts page suddenly started loading normally, when previousy disabling plugins had no effect. It's frustratingly hard to reproduce.
What happens when you go here: http://www.wijstoppenook.nl/nl/ and click around a bit on those slide-open bullet points?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/friends/? No crashing here. Then again, I have no contacts, which may affect matters.

Nothing but a smooth sliding effect.

I am troubled.

Run it in safe mode. Or nuke it from orbit.

This has some unpredictable effect, but does not solve the issue.

I have given it thought.

Just downgrade back to 3.5.7. My fiance's laptop autoupdated to 3.6, and it broke pop-up functionality. And not "You're the 1000's visiturs" popup-- but "Save As..." and "Download Manager" and "Tools -> Options" popups.
-
I'm going to downgrade when I've tried all options, and have spent my gumption.

It appears there's a buffer overflow issue with font rendering & downloading, and 3.6.2 fixes that.
I've had no crashes yet.
Thanks for playing, evvyone.
