Layoffs Needed

  • At first, I assumed something got lost in translation.  They got me; I clicked the ad.  I still didn't get it.
It took me a while before I realized that they meant something along the lines of "slave labor needs to be laid-off"
Maybe I'm slow?  Or, maybe it was smart, and the referrer did it on purpose to get my click?  Advertisment by obfuscation. Layoffs Needed

  • That would make a gooood subliminal advertising.

  • Actually, I think this one is really good.

Yes, that's exactly what it's saying, child laborers should no longer be put to work.

It's an ad, so the attention catcher of 'layoffs needed' is a good way to snap your mind to it, and then you realize it's some poor kid who never should have had to work in the first place that needs to be laid off.

  •  I see no WTF. The ad accomplished its purpose -- you clicked on it.

  • Isn't the kid actually working by being on the ad?

Who cares when the material's so cheap the shoes fall apart after a week?

  •  So... TRWTF is that you played Monkey Quest? Or that you went to King.com? Or that you're not using an ad blocker?

    Don't start that one again.

Do you often accidentally click the close button on a tab? Inquiring minds want to know.

It also begs the question: "Ever heard of middle-click?"

Casual inquiry revealed that, where mousewheeling is concerned, there is sigificant variance in how people hold their mouse and/or position their fingers, to the point where some people find wheel-clicking uncomfortable and/or have a high rate of accidentally wheeling when clicking, and subsequently don't like middle-click.

I do not have such problems (and wonder what twisted, gnarly positions other people's hands contort to when mandhandling a mouse), but it's another HCI example that shows you can't judge a novel interface until it is used and you have feedback.

My mouse is that logitech model with the bumper bars on the sides. It's wonderful for me. I can rest my fingers without accidentally  clicking. It's also shaped like a tiny Citroen Picasso (ugly car, pretty mouse), not annoying ergonomic. It just a comfortable pill. That ergonomic shit only works for the specific set of people for which it is the right shape.

  •  The Real WTF is that you have played Monkey Quest 0 times but have a score of 130244!

It was the first time I had played in over a year, so they kicked out the username.  I signed up again and played.  I guess it still should've said 1, but I think there's a delay until it matches you up with the next person in queue before it counts it as a match played.

They're using community server? That'd make two.

I think it's pretty much entirely a matter of materials and manufacturing standards, actually.  Cheap mice, the scroll-wheel can lodge on the peak between knurls, in a kind of metastable state that can easily turn a bit either way the next time you press down on it.

I'm glad to never have experienced such mice, then.

Doesn't need to be cheap at all - Logitech MX Revolution has an awful wheel, where it's practically impossible to click with it without scrolling at the same time.

Holy fucking shit, that mouse looks horrible.

I can never properly hold such "ergonomic" mice.

Glad I only spent a fiver on mine then.  I have no idea who made it, it has a greek sigma symbol on the front and says "easy optical mouse" and "made in china" underneath.  Apparently that's every bit as good as something an order of magnitude more expensive!

But what's the real cost, because the sneakers don't seem that much cheaper? Why are we still paying so much for sneakers when we've got them made by little slave kids? What are their overheads?

Overhead?  HAHAHA!  You're under the adorable, terribly mistaken impression that shoe companies are above making 8000% profit.

Hey, as long as they crank out of a product of moderate quality and keep those Chinese orphans busy so they don't end up smoking crack and listening to their music in their cars with the bass turned up so loud it shakes the windows and spray-painting their initials on stuff and going on the welfare that I have to pay for and shooting each other up at the basketball courts, they can charge whatever the fuck they want.

    I've seen it happen!
