No security like physical security...

  • At $714.99, this lock better have a thief-repulsor-field built in. Hey, at least you saved $30

  • They say it's sold in lots of 25, so maybe that's what the price is for. It's also clearly targeted at corporations, where higher price automatically equals better security.

  • See under features:

    "Sold in lots of 25, each specialized lock has a preset combination"

    The WTF is that that seems to be the only place that explains just what you're buying. It's easy to overlook that and think it's just one lock.

  •  I don't know you, but i for sure do read specifications of products before buying them online.

  • There was a craze for bicycle locks with that mechanism when I was at school (several decades ago). By keeping tension on the chain, you could feel each wheel click into place. So at most one turn of each wheel would release the lock, with amusement all round (we were too innocent to actually steal things in those days).

    The other day, a guy I worked with had screwed up the combo on the lock for his laptop and couldn't get it to open. As it was like the ones you described above I went in and opened it for him. He accused me of changing his combo as a joke. Truth is, my eyes are going to the point that I didn't even look at the combo because it was fairly dark in his office. I opened it by feel alone.  Not easy with a better quality lock but doable.

    Not to mention I don't remember how to change the combo without looking up the instructions.

    BTW: I have one of those locks on my daughters bike. I got it off of a pole that someone had left after locking up their bike. It had been there for months when I took it. I like it because I don't have to remember the combo. I had an other one but some stole it. :-}

    Yes, because having the item title of "Kensington ComboSaver Preset Combination Notebook Lock 25 pack" doesn't give you any indication that there might be more than one.

    They've fixed it in the meanwhile. I'm positively sure it wasn't there when the original post was posted.
