Important announcement: It's snowing in Canada
-
Surprisingly enough, people were driving with the right amount of caution. The streets are a mess but at least no accidents on my drive in today.
-
@hungrier now? I thought you guys had had... what, about 3 1/2 months of snow by now?
-
Usually by this time of year we'd already be buried and have started an undersnow society, but this year has been very warm for the season, and rainy.
-
@hungrier Here's what that would look like if it snowed in Dallas.
We got a slight dusting of snow overnight, which partially melted and refroze, making the highways into skating rinks. Trolls in SUVs are intentionally getting in front of cars without AWD and slowing down. As a result, traffic on google maps shows the entire city as red even though half of the city is staying home after clearing the shelves at Walmart. Everything will be back to normal tomorrow when the snow and ice melt. Hopefully no one will have slid into my parked car this time.

Or, for those of you that prefer the picture version:

@izzion At least a nuke would thaw everything...

Jeez. At least our snowmageddon involved 15cm (6in) of the stuff.
-
@antiquarian
Also, IME (granted, from a colder weather state where people should know how to drive in snow), the "trolls in SUVs" are actually just morons that were zipping around people because "LUL AWD" and then they figured out that hey, it's still slippery in an SUV too, so they slow back down and drive more cautiously than necessary to balance out their stupid.

The grass was still green in Montreal yesterday.
I'm sure it's still green if you remove the snow covering it
Currently only -8° Celcius (17,6° Fahrenheit if you still use the ancient system)
Keep up the global warming

That's still pretty damn cold. Granted, it's like that pretty much all winter in Michigan, but that's why I moved to Texas.

Not on a Canadian scale

You know how much sense it makes to add decimal digits of precision when going from a less precise unit to a more precise unit...
About tree fiddy sense (397.48¥).
-
@anotherusername
Can you really call them decimal digits of precision when they use the wrong separator

Live action shot of @timebandit on the WTDWTF forums:
Edit, also, from TFA:
1 234 567.89 SI style (English version), Canada (English-speaking)
So you still used the wrong separator, since this is an English speaking forum :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:

@hungrier you forgot to end it with "PHP"

@timebandit
Hey, there's only so many swear words you can fit into a song from a children's movie.

If you're using Fahrenheit, you'd also be using the correct decimal separator

Around here, we got the second round of snow this year. Much like the first round of snow, and all previous occurrences of snowy weather ever, this took the whole transportation system by complete surprise. To the point where the electronic sign at the bus/tram station just said "We are currently experiencing disturbances in traffic, please expect significant divergence from the schedule" (or something along those lines anyway).
"Here" would refer to Sweden (albeit the southerny parts of it). It's not exactly miraculous that we get snow. Not in December anyway.
-
@cvi And meanwhile here in the Netherlands popular opinion is claiming nobody else has problems with snow.
Newsflash: As long as everything is significantly above freezing, everything works fine. As long as everything is significantly BELOW freezing, everything is fine also (even in NL). It's the bit around zero that will always cause problems, everywhere, especially if snow is involved.

I wish we had snow.
I wish we had actual seasons and not 'it's occasionally brisk in the mornings'.
grumble grumble grumble

yes?eh?Translated that for you, so that @TimeBandit can understand it

No, we have a summer here

@timebandit Is there even water there, or are they being used as sleds?

Sunday morning, we woke up to our first light frost of the season. It took almost 30 seconds for my car defroster to clear the windshield so I could see to drive.

In the worst frost of last year, my gearbox seemed to freeze. I couldn't get the gearstick into first until I'd been running the engine for about 10 minutes, and even then it needed a lot of force
-
@jaloopa You need Canadian gearbox oil
More seriously, how cold was it ? -50°
-
@timebandit probably no colder than about -5. It was weird but the cold was the only plausible reason I could come up with
-
@timebandit Maple syrup isn't what we're looking for here.

How I wish it would actually be winter here, I am sick and tired of 70 degree days. This is Colorado damnit, I want snow.

Over here, they keep insisting you should scrape it off manually, and not let the engine run while doing so. How those people prevent the windows frosting up again when they drive away puzzles me. They probably hold their breath for the first 5 minutes. Or own heated garages.

They say the same thing here.
I tell them to fuck off and use my remote starter
FileUnder: I'm not gonna have an accident just to save some tiny bit of emission gas

Sure, that's pretty reasonable.
and not let the engine run while doing so.
"They" can eat shit. Heating up the car and the windows helps make the scraping easier, and as an added bonus allows you to not freeze to death when you get in the car.

@Perverted_Vixen only has her top draped on like that because of the mountie positioned just out of frame that threatened to kick us out of the country if she didn't keep her top on.
Man that mountie was a total hardass. it was a private access beach in the first place, so there wasn't anyone but us and we couldn't be seen from the road at all.....
