Issue 31482: Huge amount of goats teleported

  • Chrome Version: Google Chrome 4.0.266.0 (Official Build 33992)

    What steps will reproduce the problem?
    1. Shift+Esc
    2. Right click on any process
    3. Select "Goats teleported"

    What is the expected result?

    I expected Google Chrome to teleport maybe three, maximum five goats!

    What happens instead?

    About 3*10^6 goats get teleported! I won't be able to pay for teleportation
    of such huge amount of goats!

    Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
    possible.

    Screenshot attached.

  •  Hmm.... I'm going to doubt Google's accuracy, here.  I've been there, and there were at most a few dozen goats that I could see... maybe a hundred.  Certainly not 3E6.

    ...Seriously, though.  Here is the goats code:

    [code] case kGoatsTeleportedColumn: // Goats Teleported.

    goats_teleported_ += rand();

    return FormatNumber(goats_teleported_);[/code]

    return FormatNumber(goats_teleported_);</font>

    Yeah, I was looking at that too, google codesearch being the obvious tool for the job.

    Strangely enough, on win32 it ANDs the rand() value with 4095; apparently windows platforms can't teleport goats as fast as linux :-)

    I presume the idea is just to have a constantly-changing value available for testing the redraw algorithms.

    "For now, the teleported goats are just fake.

    But… we suspect that this is just because the version of Google Chrome that is currently available is just a development build. The Chrome Development Team simply haven’t got around to implementing the real goat teleporter yet."

    Mare imbrium's goat teleportation station is showing different totals. We might have an off by one effort, or a missing goat.

    Is there a version of Chrome for the countries where goat teleportation is illegal?

    [quote user="#11"]I am concerned about the risk of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease being transmitted between teleported goats. At the speed they are being teleported, one can hardly expect the biofilters to be able to keep up with filtering out prions. What precautions have been taken to avoid cross-contamination of goat matter streams?[/quote]

    I think this is an example of "convenience over security". The rate should be lowered to avoid the risk pointed out in comment #11. Believe it or not, the teleportation rate used to be higher before the Linux port. We should have caught this when we fixed the Linux interface to the teleporter.

    I suppose we should use less GOATO statements in our teleport method.

  •  Has anyone reported a teleporter accident goat with goatee yet?

    There's no such thing as a goat EE. Goats are all software people.

    FTFY.  And yes, I imagine that probably was a pretty nasty teleporter accident, but fortunate considering who it happened to, there would have been room for the goat to escape.
