Debian discusses zoophilia

The package cowsay includes an ASCII representation of Zoophilia. The
file in question is /usr/share/cowsay/cows/sodomized-sheep.cowThis is a legal issue in many countries. Even if it's not well-defined
by law if ASCII representations of Zoophilia are legal or not, I'd
rather prefer not to take a chance being involved in a lawsuit when such
a file could be found on my computer.Please remove the file from the packages as soon as possible. Thank you.

@pjh I never realized that Chick-fil-A had such a dark side...

@pie_flavor
This was best one:You people are beyond me. Why in the world would you want a picture of a
sheep (?) being forced (??) into sex (???) it quite likely does not want
(????) in a distribution of computer programs (?????) even if there was
no legal issue whatsoever. If you can judge by the number of question
marks, this is a serious question. I'm looking forward to the attempt of
a serious answer.

Just a reminder that every professional software development company and virtually every professional software developer is emulating the development methodology and culture that brought us "ASCII art of a sheep being raped in an OS image".
We've gotten rid of the old Apple and Microsoft that would include things like music videos on their install CDs, and gone directly to sheep raping. This is called "evolution".
-
... wait. Just what in the fuck is cowsay?
.... Are you fucking kidding me?

Could you perhaps clarify what exactly you mean here? Which development methodology are they emulating?
-
@blakeyrat well, when the OS was 200 MB it was easy enough to use the remaining space on the disc to put music and "Hover" on it. Can't do more than ASCII art when the OS alone is 20GB now.
Edit: thinking of it, I doubt you'd want anything more visual than ASCII art, either.

It's obvious. If you use git, you're a zoophile.
-
You think they could have posted a picture (or text-picture) of the sheep. I can't imagine an "ASCII representation" can be very explicit.

@anonymous234 So you'd think...
NSFW(?)

In this context, that word just raises even more questions...

@pjh Is there an equivalent ponysay-off package too with ponies sodomizing griffins and dragons etc?

I guess pull requests are accepted

@jaloopa it's a sheep! Geez.

@anotherusername It's ASCII art. It barely looks like anything

Got around to reading the thread and found it fairly interesting that this file was added as a maintainer patch to the Debian package and actually is Debian-specific. Now that's pretty stupid. Instead of such a patch, the file should have been added upstream; there's hardly any value in saying "Debian: We're the distribution with more offensive cows than the other ones."
I understand the Debian maintenance process is fairly decentralized, but they really do need to make it less so; it's bitten them in the past, famously with OpenSSL and I believe recently with PostgreSQL as well. I guess it's the "Cathedral and the Bazaar" argument – should someone be in a veto position to say "No, this is just crap"?
-
@heterodox
It's open source, it defends my freedom to have a sodomized sheep recommended as a package for children's games.

-
@pjh Well you did post a pony.

Like all Linux distros, it's decentralized by necessity. Because it's just a collection of other open source projects.
I don't know if anyone is actually paying "the Debian project" (or whatever it's officially called) or if it's just people working on their spare time, but they almost certainly don't have the resources to directly maintain more than 1% of the code they ship.
-
@anonymous234 Ironically, the addition of this particular image is one of the things that exists only as a Debian-specific patch to the cowsay project. Its not in the upstream project.

It's just blakey's normal racism against open source.

@boomzilla I thought so too initially (as you might see from the post I deleted) but then I wondered if he might be referring to
git
. It's ; who knows really...

No, that kind of thing is reserved for DeviantArt fan pages.

IKR? I'm not so interested as to actually go and boot up an install and install it just to snag the file, but sheesh...

My joke is that there's some other ascii art depiction of ponies getting hurt that someone is complaining about in another bug report, as opposed to the complaining about sheep sodomy linked in the OP.
