SSD Failure

So I bought an SSD disk, Adata SU800. I wanted to clone my current OS to this disk. So I downloaded Partition Wizard and started the process. It rebooted, started copying data and then froze at 14%. After a few minutes, I started it unfroze and started throwing an error, I believe it was error 55 and a node number, a new row for each new node number. I rebooted the machine, powered it up and windows no longer recognized the disk. I checked in BIOS: disk is not recognized. I put into an external drive sleeve and connected to my laptop: no luck.

Did it break? If not, how can I fix it?

If yes, why would it break? I guess I should try turn it in, request a replacement?

@kt_ If the BIOS isn't even seeing it as a disk, I wonder if you just got one with a dud board...

    What’s a “dud board”?

Off Brand SSDs tend to break more often, that's why I don't trust them.

Samsung or bust. Or at least crucial or intel.

Well, this doesn’t help me, really.

So, what you’re saying is: it broke for good?

If you can't get it to show up in bios and you're sure it's hooked up correctly, then yes it broke.

At least you caught it quick. Send it back and get a replacement. Or better yet a samsung.

Right there is where I'd start the RMA process. Return that defective sucka. No point trying to investigate when you could just get a new one that works the first time.

Sadly I have to admit SSDs is something Samsung is actually quite good at. (The guy at Samsung in charge of SSDs just resigned suddenly, BTW. People were expecting him to fill-in the CEO position after all their executive staff got thrown in prison. So quality might change soon.)

Intel is also good at them. I also had one from (IIRC) OCX? that went 4 years with zero errors/problems. EDIT: OCZ, and it's owned by Toshiba now.

A mainboard on the drive that's a "dud". Manufacturer defect.

Early failure? Yes. Otherwise it is going to be nothing but trouble even if you persuade it to work at all. Life is too short for living with bad hardware.

Yeah, I’m gonna do that. Just, I hate having to do that, I estimate the least time it’ll take them to process this and deliver me the replacement is 2 weeks. Probably more like a month.

    Hate it. :/

  • @kt_ If it's from Amazon or NewEgg, call them on the telephono device, I (almost) guarantee they'll have a replacement there in like 2-3 business days if you talk to a human.

  • And then the murders began.

@blakeyrat Amazon will (even without talking to a person). Newegg will probably make him go to the manufacturer.

  • @unperverted-vixen Eh. I've had good experiences with NewEgg in the past (dealing with a DOA video card), but it has been years and years.

If you're not broke you could just buy a second SSD with the shipping you get from a normal purchase, then try to return the defective one for store credit.

Unfortunately it’s a Polish seller. I don’t know exactly what their return procedure is, because they were closed during the weekend. I submitted a warranty claim and I’ll be waiting for them to respond. They say 2 business day, but I’ll start calling on the second day.

Yeah, I’d do that, but 1) I am broke and 2) it’s generally hard to return stuff for store credit in Poland. :/
