Weather gadget fail

  • Screenshot of my desktop. My weather gadget (stock Windows Vista version) has been reading -36 degrees for several days now.

  • Is TRWTF Vista, or your choice of image hosting? (I was disappointed not to see any cats).

Edit: Actually I just set mine to your location and got -36 too..... your weather station is broke. And I've gotta fess up to using Vista. Sometimes.

  • I don't expect you to know the answer because many people just parrot what they read, but who started shortening the word "failure" to "fail"? Is it supposed to be cute? Or just the "in thing" to do?

    Language of teh intarwebz, sir.

  • Certainly not a web site that I'd find necessary to visit.

Corruption of the language hampers communications. That's my only complaint.

Agreed.  The US needs to go back to putting a superfluous 'u' or 'o' in words, and pronouncing every single letter in a word, like the 'k' in 'knight'.

You failed to comprehend the keyword in my sentence: "corruption".

    Or, in Newspeak:

U fail t comp da key in my sents: "crupt".

Not really.  How is the American corruption of British English any different than the Internet's "corruption" of modern, American English?

Or the Modern English corruption of Middle English or the Middle English corruption of Old English or the Old English corruption of Anglo-Frisian, Low German and Latin or...

    Languags evolve: get over it.

Not by the evidence I see on the website, the community on that site seems to be quite healthy in their ability to discuss.

And to answer your sweeping statement assuming that none of us have a background in linguistics or care to read or think in any shape or form:

I just assumed it was another example of the difficulty some people have with differentiating between nouns and verbs. (See also: "invite").
