In which we continue to make fun of Wondows 10 Autumn Craters' Pupdate

In a story that now seems to have been taken down. pcworld.com reported that the Wondows 10 Autumn Craters' Pupdate would be delayed a month to October 17.
According to the author, it may be related to unforeseen issues related to mixed reality.
I think "mixed reality" sums up Wondows 10 pretty well.

I think "mixed reality" sums up Wondows 10 pretty well.
I liked the game performance optimizations that the first one had, and haven't actually noticed any major annoyances besides the poweruser menu replacing control panel with settings.
I seem to be taking the stance of 'this thing you all shit on isn't all that bad' a lot.

October 17.
Don't know about delayed, but... https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/09/01/create-and-play-this-holiday-with-the-windows-10-fall-creators-update-coming-oct-17/
And it does mention mixed reality...

As a content creator, I'm really wondering what the fuck these updates are/were have/had to do with me.
The entire feature list for the new one is gaming, productivity, and one token "content creation" add-on to photos. Which no existing photographic or videographic content creator will bother with, but might be useful to a neophyte or two.
Beyond that point, whatevs. I'll apply the service pack.
-
I still haven't gotten the creator update. Windows 10 says it's up to date. Y'all think I'm missing out on much?

Eh… not really.

I have Windows complaining that it's out of date. I tell it to reboot, it does some stuff aaaand... bootloops. And then it restores to previous version after three forced reboots.
So you're potentially missing out on that.
-
@bb36e If you buy a MR headset, you can't use it without. Plus, update scheduling works better.

Don't forget that they delayed the new photo/video editor thing to the next release. Also they're apparently merging it with the Photos application because the Feedback Hub is full of complaints about the name change.

They added some transparency, some programs you'll probably never use, a setting that may make your other programs slightly less likely to interfere with your games, and hid the Control Panel a bit more. So probably not.

@parody I also noticed with one of the Insider builds that some of that shit I uninstalled (Get Office) came back. Oh just fuck off. And some options got fucked up - suggested apps came back in the start menu. But my options still had them off. Toggling said option fixed it.
-
@dcon Yeah, I get that sort of thing rather often in the Insider builds. Good thing I keep it confined to a very limited virtual machine.
-
@dcon I think that just comes with their reduced guarantees of consistency in insider builds.

That's a good fucking feature. No infinite BSOD here.

??? They mean this one?
-
@tsaukpaetra It is that one, but they added Swyping in the fall creators update apparently.

Wow.... totally useful on my 17" tablet...

?
Guess I'll find out eventually. Haven't got the previous large update installed yet, since doing so involves (physically) disconnecting all non-windows drives because apparently the update will nope the fuck out when it finds a non-windows boot drive. (Which, admittedly, is an improvement over then earlier just-nuke-it-with-a-windows-bootloader-policy.)

I like that they removed the "has most of the keys" variant of the touch keyboard and actually gave in and put it back after a bunch of complaints. Here I thought the Feedback Hub was just a way to safely ignore users.
As a side effect, now my Insider VM has the
AccessibilityEase of Access On-Screen Keyboard stuck to the Taskbar next to the Control Panel.

Yeah. The one that whenever I touch the screen in Visual Studio 2010, it pops up. Even though I'm in desktop mode (with a keyboard) and not tablet. JUST GO THE FUCK AWAY.
-
Status: No, Windows, I don't want to install updates automatically. Stop forcing me!
... Oh wait...

Wait really?
That's good to know, as the new owner of a Surface Pro 3...
-
@sloosecannon Yeah, they've had it in the mobile versions for years now. I think they finally just synched the two keyboards up.
