Was reading random articles and came across http://thedailywtf.com/Articles/May-The-Form-Be-With-You.aspx -- the 'see it live' link was struck out so I assumed they'd fixed it since the article appearede but the link was still there and I clicked it anyway; found the 'Donate Online' Button (Menu: Get Involved > Donate) and clicked it. Sure, enough the Jedi & Sith have been purged but there are still some questionable choices:
"Prof." and "Professor" both ("Professor" is out of alphabetical order at the bottom of the list)
"Aunt" but no "Uncle"
"The Late Ambassador" and "The Late Secretary of State" (and while "Ambassador" is a choice there is no option for a living Secretary of State)
But my very favorite is the first item on the list: "Uploaded Conscious Entity"

Hmm Rev., Reverend and The Reverend.
Really, if they want really proper forms of address, these titles should be stackable! I can't enter my full royal style "The right honourable Consul General, Dr. Reverend Monsignor arty, defender of the faith, lord protector of privvy upon tinystream and great holy emperor of curmudgeon". Clearly, I won't be donating any time soon!

Uploaded Conscious Entity is pretty good.
And their menu is the worst use of sound I've seen on a website since the [url=http://www.globalaigs.org/]World Glaucoma Association's[/url] hymn...

Your words imply that there is a spectrum of quality concerning sound on websites. This is not the case.
There is only 1 (one) correct method of implementing the audio medium in web pages: it is the one that is 1. exclusively part of a song or movie clip, and 2. does not start automatically.
All other methods and applications are incorrect.

Well, that doesn't mean they're doing it the [i]right[/i] way.
There are countable times I've scrambled to find the source of noise in my music that turned out to be some web page in the background auto-starting its player. Or had one YouTube video interrupted by another one in a different tab.

This almost sounds like you trust too many websites to code scripts properly and not be cracked by malware vendors. Since I've started running noscript, I've not had this problem.

There are countable times I've scrambled to find the source of noise in my music that turned out to be some web page in the background auto-starting its player. Or had one YouTube video interrupted by another one in a different tab.
[/quote]I just use FlashBlock: problem solved*! HTML5 better give clients the option to disable those pesky media tags though!

We need QuickTimeBlock.
Anyway, that's still way better than embedding Real Media. I mean, come on, Real. More like Real Miserable. Also, IIRC you can turn autoplay off in the QuickTime control panel applet.

NoScript should take care of this just fine. I'm sure there are dozens of Greasemonkey scripts to strip out Quicktime and if you're halfway competent at programming you could write your own in a few minutes.

Brannigan wouldn't donate money to a botanical garden; he'd just subsume the entire garden into himself. Then he could write himself off his own taxes as a charitable donation.
