Lenovo's are shitty garbage
-
Too lazy to look up the old thread where we were talking about how Lenovos are shitty garbage and Accalia was trying to convince me they weren't shitty garbage even though they are shitty garbage.
I found out the Lenovo I returned for being defective wasn't defective-- well, at least, it wasn't any more defective than every other shitty Lenovo piece of broken crap-- the actual problem is related to Creator's Update. Once you install Creator's Update, Lenovo's wifi driver shits itself regularly in such a way that it not only disconnects you from the network, but actually locks-up every single application on your computer with an open network socket. It's zestfully shit.
How did I find this out? Well, the replacement they sent didn't have Creator's on it, but my employer required me to upgrade. I upgrade and, bam, the laptop I thought was "fixed" turns out to have the exact same goddamned problem. Creator's has been available for almost a full fucking year, and Lenovo still hasn't fixed their busted-ass shit.
The company that supports the computer can't even figure out how to fix it, so their policy is to just mail out USB wifi adapters, because apparently even the dumbshit morons at Lenovo, Inc can figure out how to make USB reliable. Somehow. Maybe they kidnapped a Dell engineer.
So now this laptop:
- Has busted wifi
- Has a the backspace key in the wrong space
- Has a broken "double-tab to caps lock" that can't be turned off
- Has a retarded touch-sensitive function keys area which somehow telepathically manages to be in the exact wrong "mode" from the one you actually need.
- A fucking red clit right in the middle of the fucking keyboard why does this exist!
I hate it.
-
Are you using it in clamshell mode? That would circumvent some of these problems.
-

Intel is guilty of this also. One of our clients uses Compute Sticks for displaying their workflow management to huge LCD screens. These all shit themselves this week when Creator's Update hit them.
I blame Microsoft.

My work lenovo does that with windows 7. I thought it was our wifi's fault :/
-
I avoid Lenovo like the plague after the Superfish incident.
-
I still like my Lenovos. But, yeah, the wifi sucks. Mine will lock up about every 2 or 3 times I put the machine to sleep. A simple reboot fixes it.
Has a broken "double-tab to caps lock" that can't be turned off
That must be some dumb third party crap. Never seen that happen... (maybe an option to turn it off in the mousepad settings?)

Oh shit - have they gone full Apple? Time to clue-bat some idiot designer.
Has a the backspace key in the wrong space
As I said... cluebat. (what is the wrong space? mine have always been where I expected)
A fucking red clit right in the middle of the fucking keyboard why does this exist!
E_NO_REPRO. Well, except on my old X61 since it didn't have a touchpad. Since that had a stylus, I only used it once or twice in its lifetime...

"I love my husband and he loves me. I just put some make up and you can hardly notice the bruises"

They ordered me the World's Largest USB Wifi Adapter:
This thing's like Godzilla danging out from the side of your computer. Sheesh.
-
@dcon said in Lenovo's are shitty garbage:

There's only two parties involved: Lenovo, who makes this broken ass-laptop, and Microsoft who's handy "double-tab shift for caps lock" toggle doesn't work due to Lenovo fucking it up. Somehow.
@dcon said in Lenovo's are shitty garbage:

?
The sad thing is I bet there's some super elite mega XXL ultra game-pad++ mouse pad that actually does have settings.

Not at the top right of the keyboard is the wrong place. That is also where it happens to be. ("Delete" is in the coveted top right position, the key I use roughly once a decade.)

How could it possible be the server's fault that the client locks up?
-
@blakeyrat said in Lenovo's are shitty garbage:

I can deal with the backspace key, as it is still immediately above the |\ so at least my muscle memory is okay. But the fucking pgup/pgdn being around the arrow keys pisses me off to no end.
@blakeyrat said in Lenovo's are shitty garbage:
A fucking red clit right in the middle of the fucking keyboard why does this exist!
Because their touchpad sucks so badly.

Wifi keeps disconnecting, I didn't notice anything locking up. Maybe it's a different problem, but now I'm suspicious of that lenovo

Where "does that" refers to:

If you didn't notice locking-up, why the fuck did you typ-- ugh.

I guess I'm not understanding. You use a Touch-Keyboard (aka OSK) function with a Hardware-Keyboard device?
That's actually rather phenomenal!
FWIW I have never seen it. Apparently my Windows is not as smart as yours...
-
@blakeyrat I also hate how the business line has fn as the outermost key in the lowest row on the left hand side, you know, where ctrl usually is, with the actual ctrl key being right next to it on the right. What the fuck?! NO ONE does that.
And did you see I mentioned business line? They don't do it in the computers targeting the consumer market. I have two lenovos at home, both with the correct placement of ctrl, it's only the work one (t460) that's different.
Also the t460 -- it doesn't have the "show context menu" key. It has print screen in its place.
I mean, add to this that fn key is activated by default and you have the most odd keyboard layout ever. :/
-
@blakeyrat said in Lenovo's are shitty garbage:

don't all laptops have fucked up backspace keys from stupid non-typists designing the laptop keyboards to save space?
i've never met a laptop backspace i liked. All too fucking small/in the wrong spot.

According to a colleague who used to do L1 support, that fixes about 80% of all queries. Can't argue with those figures…

A while back I had actually bought a Lenovo laptop. After installing Debian on it I noticed that the wifi was extremely unstable. It would periodically hang, disconnect or just be slow, while at other times it would be fine.
"Not a problem", I thought as I opened the laptop and removed the crappy Broadcom wifi module. I had an Atheros module from an old laptop available that had never given me any trouble. After installing the new module and starting the laptop it refused to boot, with the following message:
"Unauthorized Wireless network card is plugged in. Power off and remove it."
At this point I simply placed the old, crappy, wifi card back and returned the laptop. No more Lenovo for me.

A grammar-sensitive spellchecker, of course, could do it, because it would know that "fist" doesn't belong there. It could then propose alternatives based on whether they belong there, and probably "first" would top the list of suggestions based on a combination of "it belongs, grammatically" and "small edit distance" and perhaps even "common phrase" for "in the first place".

Obviously that's not true. You've found an instance which shows that someone does it. In fact, it's also true of this MacBook Pro's keyboard so that's two.

Obviously that's .
Also, standards tend to differ between the PC and Mac markets, plus for Macs Apple is the de facto stands setter, due to them being the only company making them.
For Lenovo to try to set standards and doing that only for one of their product lines, is an awful thing.

“There are four ways in which you can spend money. You can spend your own money on yourself. When you do that, why then you really watch out what you’re doing, and you try to get the most for your money. Then you can spend your own money on somebody else. For example, I buy a birthday present for someone. Well, then I’m not so careful about the content of the present, but I’m very careful about the cost. Then, I can spend somebody else’s money on myself. And if I spend somebody else’s money on myself, then I’m sure going to have a good lunch! Finally, I can spend somebody else’s money on somebody else. And if I spend somebody else’s money on somebody else, I’m not concerned about how much it is, and I’m not concerned about what I get.”
— Milton FriedmanThe businesses are spending their money on somebody else.

On Linux, I have CapsLock repurposed as keyboard shift—switches layout while pressed in the tradition of the UCW-CS keyboard used. The effect is that CapsLock+a is
á
, CapsLock+w isě
etc. On Windows, there is also some hack to install UCW-CS keyboard, but I didn't bother looking for it and just use the standard Czech (Programmers), which uses right Alt (AltGr) as keyboard shift and has the accented letters on numbers as in normal Czech layout instead of on or near the base letters as the UCW-CS one.@boomzilla said in Lenovo's are shitty garbage:

It seems rare. I repurposed that key too, but only on Linux.
