my wtf story

today i logged into my gf's iphone to check my email and logged back out. about an hour ago she asked me "did you type in 'how to peel off a sunburn' in my phone?" i thought of the time i typed it in google on my own laptop, at home, about a week ago (when i got back from a day trip to a lake, had a horrible sunburn) but i didn't remember typing that in her phone. i told her i didn't type that in, but that was really weird. she didn't believe me and we got into a tiny argument over this, after a minute i was convinced i must've searched it on her phone some time in the last week. then she asks me if i typed in "how to program at&t remote to tv" and that had to be me but i knew i didn't type that in her phone either, i knew i searched that in my laptop just yesterday. right then i realized my chrome search history must've been updated to her phone when i logged into gmail, even though i logged back out.
i remember seeing something on chrome about a new feature where you take your tabs with you on a smart phone, so you can pick up where you left off. apparently they take your search history too, and who knows what else, and put it on whatever device you log into. i was absolutely sure i logged out of gmail, i'm always careful about those things. her iphone must've automatically updated that feature without her noticing, i know she uses chrome on her laptop too.
so i explained that whole thing to her and that was where everything went downhill. she started looking further and further into the history and read all sorts of humiliating things out loud to me on the phone, like "filipina milf pov" "bangbros milfs hd" "asian orgy pov" and the list goes on and on.
she knows i watch porn and she's ok with that but this was just plain fucking embarrassing, everything i've ever searched in google chrome in the palm of her hand, not just porn but anything i've had the curiosity to search, absolutely nothing i can do about it. i asked her very politely to just delete everything because it's a big invasion of my privacy. i love her very much and trust her, but would you do read through the list or delete it right away? just keep scrolling a little bit, seeing more and more bizarre things and eventually find out all sorts of shit you never would've known?
i am praying she deleted it when she said she did, we made up and i told her i trust her and tried to end the conversation nicely. but i'm losing sleep over this, and i feel pretty violated. who else's phone have i ever logged into gmail with? who else can see my entire google search history whenever they please??
what the fuck, gmail?!

trwtf - why didn't you use your own phone? Phones are kinda meant to be single-user, so it shouldn't be a surprise that they're assuming they are...
And if you insist on using someone else's phone, everyone knows you should usepornincognito mode so your login cookies don't conflict@roberto-gil said in my wtf story:

errrrr...
yeah... Incognito. Why do you have that in your search history?

also, wtf is with that link? Spam? or... what?

@sloosecannon
Yes, malicious link spam. Probably trying to get Bing to direct GMail somewhere weird, with a side of phishing.

-
@sloosecannon not really, it's taking the name of the site, stripping filler words and inserting it into "my ____ story", have seen this enough times to believe it is a bot. Has been an interesting thing over the last year to see "my [slight word jumble no actual human would post] story"
My favourite is on a now defunct forum that I'd helped out last year. A post titled "My BSDM stories story" with a similarly rambling story ripped from the inter webs that really didn't fit, attached to an existing long thread about no such things.

Ah. Well consider me bamboozled then.

@sloosecannon the war on spam is not going nearly as well as some people think. The spammers are winning the arms race.

yes. so is the stupid story.
-
@darkmatter the weird part at this point is that the admins let the story/topic survive and only neutered the spam link.
and that i posted, thereby bumping this topic.
from now on i only post here in edits of an existing post, so as to avoid the bump.

Not at all. It's happened many times before.
It should have been moved to the Spam category though. Yes, we have one.
-
@zecc I'm actually kinda gland we do. Spam is fun to mock and for those of us that do study anti spam, it's real life data to work with.
-
I'm not really sure I believe this story. I know it was stolen from Reddit, I'm still not sure I believe it. How could gmail sync his search history? To what? Chrome? Another app?
Plus, who uses Chrome on iOS?
-
@kt_ Isn't Chrome on iOS just a Safari skin anyway?
-
@kt_ said in my wtf story:

As soon as I sign in to something using a Google account on any new Chrome installation it starts syncing my search history to anything else I'm signed into my Google account on, so I can see signing into GMail doing that.
My StackOverflow account is through my Google account, and as soon as I signed into that from my new work PC all the searches I did from that browser started coming up as history on my phone.
The guy was obviously too stupid to do it in incognito, but then if you believe the story he was too stupid to do his porn in incognito as well.

The rendering engine is the same, but I think they're allowed to add all their other account syncing features and the like.
-
@roberto-gil If she can't handle your search history, bro...
My facetiousness aside, think of this as an opportunity to connect to her better. Might lead to better activities in the bedroom, or wherever it is you guys like to have sex (variation is supposed to be educational).
I know how you feel though. I don't want anyone to know how many of my google searches start with the word "stellaris". I feel uncomfortable just writing it here. I use incognito browser.

Even if you beat the bots with 100% efficiency, they would start hiring something like amazon mechanical turk

I don't think it's easy to turn into a Filipina. MILF is only slightly easier.
TRWTF is, who the fuck looks up porn on Google?

Well... Yeah. Multiuser exists in Android, but that's more of "copy the single-user environment for a different person".
Plus I didn't actually know it was spam (suspected, but wasn't 100% sure) so I was trying to respond in the least confusing manner possible :P

Reminds me of Schlock Mercenary:
Plea-bargaining anything down to Grand Spamming is usually a bad idea. As early as the 21st century spammers were already less popular than defense attorneys, door-to-door fragrance salesmen, and the French. By the late 31st century they were held in the same regard as pedophiles and telemarketers.
The stigma was so powerful that Hormel was forced to rename their increasingly unpopular luncheon meat to "SPHLEGM" (Salted, Processed Ham and Lard. Edible? Gag a Maggot!)
Sales skyrocketed.

We tried to do it with my little brother's tablet. Apparently Google Play Services broke so badly it core dumps on startup, and since it's an auto-starting app it crashes every second neverending. But only on secondary accounts. The main account (i.e. primary normal not-multi-user-aware) is just fine.
-
@magus said in my wtf story:

Recheck what? If Bing is as good at finding porn as it is at finding anything else, I stand by what I said
-
@akko Yeah, and I'm telling you you're wrong in this case.
-
@magus Well then, color me surprised. So there actually is a thing that Bing is good for. Who would've thought...

But that's on a tablet that I set up for my kids to share for some educational apps. It helps keep their app settings and saves separate.
