The hedgehog buys some headphones that make her skull vibrate

@raceprouk said in a thread once:
I went for this one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MR5ESKJ/I figure it'll see plenty of use during game and roleplay nights, and also for fanfic nights and commentary recording, hence going for the mic.
And I'll be picking them up from the Amazon Locker on my way home tonight, just in time for GTAV! :D

The game that came out in 2013? That GTA V?

I don't have that brand, but I'm pretty happy with my Walson bone conduction headphones. Good luck with Aftershokz.

Yes, the game I bought for the 360 in 2013, then again on Steam early 2016 so I could play online with friends.
-
@raceprouk Ok I'm still questioning your use of the phrase "just in time for".
I put gas in my car, just in time to use the US Interstate Highway System!

Kinda like that, yeah: I'm playing it online tonight.

I presume you'regoing to review them ? Cause i'm interested.

I got these things and fucking love them
the situational awareness afforded by the design is phenomenal! and the sound quality is quite tolerable. I'd like a bit more bass but it's not like the bass is muted or anything. it's like listening to music on a really nice set of speakers that have an awesome set of mids and tweeters but didn't come with a subwoofter so you naturally forgot about one because unless you're rocking out with your
cockboobs out to deanmaus or skillsix you don't notice the lack of earth shatteringkaboombass

I'll do a proper review of them at some point, but for now, I'll mention the first issue I've run into: the mic.
I went for a version with a built-in mic so I could use it for gaming and commentary and fanfic nights and stuff. However, that clearly wasn't the intentions of the designers, as it's a combined mic-headphone jack, not two separate jacks. So, now I need a suitable splitter.
Yes, I could have checked that before buying them.

given the primary use for an 3.5mm phono jack these days is plugging into a phone i would have rather expected the combined jack myself. ;-)
still the splitters from four pole 3.5mm phono th 2x 3 pole phono are like a quid a go so that shouldn't be too big a deal. :-)
-
@accalia I'll pop to Maplin tomorrow, most likely

I tend to flip back and forth between power metal and dubstep/nightcore/hard trance electronic music, so a lack of bass would ruin that entirely.

Coincidentally, I ordered this from SourceForge Deals yesterday:
If there's no earth-shattering bass, I suppose I'll have to get a buttkicker instead

I wager 80% of their customers want to plug it into a cellphone, where that is ideal.
The bigger question is why do PC sound cards, here in 2017, still not support the mic+headphone 3.5mm jack? It seems like something they should have added like a decade ago.

Mine does, and this isn't a very expensive machine.
-
@yamikuronue Actually this Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon sitting in front of me does also. So maybe it's becoming more common, at least on laptops, at least on ultrabooks that struggle to find enough room for 2 3.5mm holes in the side.
I've yet to see it on any desktop computer though.

There certainly isn't one on mine. But then, my desktop is getting quite old now, and will soon be replaced, so maybe the new one will have one.

to be fair, it's not a lack of bass, it's a lack of earth shattering bass
which given that these thingsa work by vibrating your actual skull is probably a good thing.
and no, i don't use them at home for rocking out. they're for the office to listen to stuff but still keep situational awareness enough to be reactive around the office. for that use the okay bass response rather than superb bass response is jsut fine.
for me anyway.

How do you keep your brain from rattling around? Cotton stuffing?

Mine is insulated with a little fluid. Cheap and works, but not always that well...

nah, i just take my brain out when i listen.
okay no, in all seriousness i don't do that. Turns out when you're using the whole skull to induce vibrations in the inner ear you don't need that high an amplitude on the waves for it to be really loud. I don't even really feel the things unless i crank them to nearly pain levels of loudness. then i feel a buzzy sort of touchy thing at the nape of my neck. less than that volume though i just hear it as if my ears heard it normallu

Mine does too, it's almost an ultrabook . All the gaming ones seem to have separate ports.

Alright, they came in. Can hardly hear anything unless the volume is at Max (which means others can clearly hear whatever is coming out of it. Kinda obviating the hole point, no?)
Was able to carry on a cell conversation (+1). Max volume tickled me (rather unusual experience, I kinda liked it. Most times tickling is not enjoyable at all...) when he spoke.
Basically the best position seems to be when the pads are over my ear.
At least this set is really lightweight despite hanging off my ear.
It didn't do deadmau5 very well, but that was expected.

You know what is unexpected? Putting in a set of in-ear buds actually improved the sound response (though it basically inverted the curve, now bass sounds pretty loud, but treble is very lacking.
It makes sense scientifically, but still, interesting to experiencing in person.
