Alexa stats fail

  • Cant seem to add Alexa Web Search to the search provider list...when I click the button its poining to the site keeps disappearing...

Yeah its not the biggest fail ever just the first I've thought to post

  • Doesn't appear here, even in IE. The script that tries to make it appear checks first that the browser supports window.external.AddSearchProvider so it should never appear in Firefox. How did you get that message to appear? Visit the site while it had an older version of the script, perhaps?

  • This would be awesome if the arrow pointed to $competing_website's close button.  Surely someone can come up with a screenshot where that's the case.

OMG did TinyMCE get fixed last night?  I didn't have a single instance where it deleted two characters with one backspace while typing that.  Could be this new FF.

  •  TRWTF is trying to add a website like alexa to your search bar:

    http://alexa.com/siteinfo/alexa.com

They won't provide stats on their own website because what the predict and what their actual hit counters say have nothing in common.

Appeared for me right now with Firefox 3.5, but pointed to the new tab button because the window didn't show a scrollbar.

Me too. Clicking on the actual arrow brought up a Firefox window asking if I wanted to add alexa to my search providers. Looks like Firefox 3.5 has added that feature and didn't tell anyone?

<firebot> Bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337780 enh, P1, ---, pamg@google.com, RESO FIXED, Support JS for adding search engines that matches IE's API (provide a way to install search engines from web script)
    <firebot> Keywords: fixed1.8.1, fixed-in-trunk
    <edazzle> works for me Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; N; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1a3) Gecko/20060621 BonEcho/2.0a3

    [EDIT]

While the actual function call has been supported since Firefox 2, from the look of it the JavaScript Alexa used seems mangled or reverse-engineered. Firefox 3.5 landed a new JavaScript engine, one that hasn't been patched and re-patched for the past 15 years, so perhaps that finally added the syntax support. I'm not seeing the script run on my computer though (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090517 Minefield/3.6a1pre)...
