MS DOS, meet Website. Website, meet MS DOS.

  • The hospital I work for is contracting a new website, so they built an interim website to make the transition easier.

Note the announcement in the bottom right hand corner: Clipart of a CRT displaying MS DOS (http://www.sh.lsuhsc.edu/index.html)

  •  Maybe they're using the Cobol on Cogs framework?

  • At first I looked in the very bottom right and noticed the copyright notice. How does it reach 6 years into the future?

do those things even mean anything in the first place?

The new site will be well written, such that it works even with text-based browsers such as Lynx, running in console mode. It's something to be proud of. Of course, when it turns out to be a PoS that only works in IE (with the IE 7 compat tag, of course), and requires plugins/script/CSS to be enabled, then you can complain, saying that it did not live up to expectations.

  •  The documentation for my employer's product still depicts our PC-based system with a nasty black and white line drawing of an old desktop (not a tower) PC with dual 5.25" disk drives.

Of course TRWTF is me being amused by that site's surreal pride-of-place link documenting their search for a piece of missing medical furniture... D'oh!

  • This is really hilarious.

  • I'm not sure if this really is MS-DOS,but anyway, that beige CRT screen is, I believe, an icon from MacOS X "Leopard". As for its contents, they're not from the original icon, but at first glance i'd say it's a screenshot of some terminal application for one of IBM's legacy S/390 or AS/400 (or zSeries or System i) mainframe/minicomputer, but I might be mistaken.

Yep, just checked, and you're right. The monitor itself is stolen from the rather infamous "generic Windows machine" icon used in Leopard's network sharing-- the one that shows a BSoD on the screen.

    Oh that's fucking mature.

  • Maybe not,. but it made me laugh...

  • Yeah, it gets worse: the BSoD is a Win98/ME screen, not NT. Those appeared so often it didn't even count as a screen of death, merely a screen of unconciousness. Besides, that's 11 years ago, surely nobody uses Win98 anymore! :D
