Dear Microsoft: it's been almost a year since I can't download Windows 10 for free anymore
-
Maybe it's time to finally fix this stupid bug on unupgraded Windows 7 and 8 installations where during intalling regular updates, it still says "Installing Windows 10"?
Sidebar Sidebar WTF: when Windows Defender scan hits 24 hours, the counter resets to 0. And I have a very good theory why.

I haven't seen that on Windows 7, at least not since they discontinued the whole GWX fiasco. However, if you're so inclined, you can still get Windows 10 for free:
-
Search for "Windows 10 for assistive technologies"
-
Install
-
Get Windows 10 for free
-
???
-
Profit!

@El_Heffe Or just download and install Windows 10 from the big button on Microsoft's website, and when it asks for a product key click "skip"; and everything will still work fine.

Well, that would certainly be good news.
If Windows 10 was worth using.
-
So... It's 'Free as in Facebook'?

It happens only on Windows installations that did receive the now-discounted GWX update but did not upgrade to 10. I think the update swapped resource strings and never released revert patch.

Link to "big red button"?
It may work for some amount of time without entering a product key, but I don't believe that Microsoft is giving Windows 10 away for free any more, other than the one loophole that I mentioned above.
-
@El_Heffe I heard you can enable accessibility options in Windows 7/8/8.1 and still get update, just like people did last year.
-
@El_Heffe Well, it's actually blue:

Easy. It's a datetime type and it displays the time part only.
-
@anotherusername Or it's a
TimeSpan
and it showsHours
instead ofTotalHours
-
@RaceProUK dates are stored as a time span (since the epoch date), so it's basically the same thing.
