Group Interview

I was out of work during the 2002 post-internet crash. My agency got me an interview at a certain well known mortgage company, now defunct, with origins in Brooklyn, NY. The position was for a contract QA position. Just my luck, the night before the interview my car blew up, I had to take the bus to go get it the next morning, then wound up being almost 30 minutes late, sweating bullets, sure that my chance for the job was shot. Well, I was lucky that day. The interviewer was waaaay behind and didn't even know I was late (bullet dodged!), and to save time suggested combining me and another guy into a "group interview" of sorts. I was all like "whatever works" but apparently the other guy had huge problems with that and let it be known that he was very uncomforable in that setting. Well, apparently that was the deciding factor and I ended up with the contract - only 3 months but it paid the bills!

- and i had the luck to work with an investment bank right in the middle of it. Exquisite timing, I joined in 2000.
Actually the mortgage giant was Greenpoint and I had no idea what they were doing, I'm sure they generated their share of "toxic assets" though. you can assault me it'll be 20 lashes with a wet noodle! :-)
