Inspiring Confidence

The following is the EXACT body text of an email I just received from CoolerMaster's service department. As a reminder, the body of a message is delimited from the headers of a message by the presence of a blank line. The line starting Content-type occurs immediately following a blank line. Also, I had to redact my RMA number because if you go over to their website and punch it in, you get my personal information. Naturally, you can also guess at an RMA number (if you know the format) and get random people's data.

  • Ok, forgive the insolence of the grasshopper on this one, but is the WTF the fact that it has the HTML as text? I can understand where that's maybe-retarded, but I must be missing something.

  • Garbage Person

The deal is that they TRIED to set the content type to HTML, and failed. And then there are the not-so-small issues of the add-one-to-your-RMA-number method to pull up some poor twat's personal information.

  • Oh-ho, got it now. Too used to looking at the big block of "sent by, received by, date, subject" as the start of anything worth looking at and not looking above it for anything.

But I agree, a tech company that can't get this right... not confidence inspiring...

  • No one is perfect, but at least some people test stuff before releasing it to production!

The last time I did an RMA over the net, they at least asked for my name first, and then the RMA number. Not perfect, but a damn sight harder to guess someone elses details.

  •  I see the problem here... you went with Cooler Master instead of Zalman. tsk tsk tsk.

  • Reminds me of a website I had to use for accessing my HSA at a job I used to work at.  On the login screen was username, password and then a drop down box with what you want to do after you log in. View my statement, see my info and one other thing were the only options.  If you selected view my statement and logged in, it would redirect you to something like www.example.com/stmt.jsp?stmtid=HKJLDKLJONIOHNOPH.  If you saved that link, you could go right back to it without logging in again.  Email it to someone else, they get in without logging in.

It was the cheapest power supply on Newegg at the time - I paid for that decision and now buy Corsair, Corsair, and even more Corsair. I mean, cheap power supplies that do what the rating sticker on the front actually says? NICE.

I don't do that aftermarket cooling crap unless I have really exotic environmental requirements.

  • WTFs aside, I like that they went to the trouble of having a space in their e-mail address.
