$2 billion fund uses Front Page

I was looking up some information about the Central Fund of Canada (ticker: CEF) and I thought it was rather ironic that there website looks just like those websites you could design using the version of Front Page included in Office 98....
Not sure if this is a good sign or bad sign. A bad sign that they are holding $2 billion in gold/silver bullion and they can't update their website with something a little more modern? Or a good sign that they are keeping costs as low as possible? I can't really complain about their website...I can access all of the information that I was looking for.

Actually, it was made using the version of Front Page included in Office XP, but your point still stands.

The cost of a normal, informative website out of 2e9 is like a single bread crumb out of a warehouse of loaves. So it's hard to condone the tech used.

It seems odd, except that according to the OP it works well, so if it ain't broke...Also, the $2B is the capitalization of the fund. Their total expenses for the first quarter of 2009 appears to be about $1.3M, which is pretty small compared to the $300M+ in income. 'Upgrading' would just give them an opportunity to generate a WTF, pissing away their investors' money.

Seems fine to me. Long as the site gives you the info you need, I don't see why it should be questioned at all. It's that kind of crap that gave us the Web 2.0 sites, so flashly and slick and nice but with NO useful features.

Thats the kind of thing I hate. I visit a site for some simple information, and my web browser tells me that I can't go further than a blank page because the website has been coded in one big java + flash lump.

Or you could, y'know, get a real browser, and not cripple it.
