BBC news WTF

Extra WTF: the link is a tinyurl that points to external coverage of the Wolfram Alpha launch, and has nothing to do with the story.

  •  TRWTF is the continued use of "czar" for government bureaucrats.  Nothing inspires confidence like the image of a hereditary dictator killed by Marxists.

Not to mention it's horribly outdated.  We need a term that will strike fear into the 20- and 30-somethings that are rising to promenance.  As such, I propose that we replace "czar" with "Battletoads speeder bike level."  Admittedly, it doesn't roll of the toungue the same way, but it's way more terrifying, not to mention an accurate portrayal of bureaucracy.

I agree with your line of thinking, but I propose a more universal term: "Ninja Gaiden." 30-somethings can think back to the original NES game that was fucking hard, while younger readers can think about the Xbox version which was also fucking hard.

    Seconded.

People, Clinger Winger was OK, sure... but it's nothing compared to NES's Silver Surfer. Hardest sh1t ever.

  •  Yes but Silver Surfer just sounds gay.  Nobody is going to fear "The Silver Surfer!!"

At least the old NES version had infinite continues, thus allowing anyone to beat the game so long as their NES didn't overheat first.  Although "Ninja Gaiden" is much cooler sounding term.

  • "The job of the new cybersecurity F-Zero GX Story Mode is far from a poisoned chalice, and one that offers a golden opportunity to make a difference, a number of leading experts told the BBC."

    I like it.

Aw, come on! The "Battletoads speeder bike level" name is Clinger Winger!

Just rename the gay ass name of Silver Sulfer to something like "The impossible, 100% death chance, skill trial from outer space" and you're done.

Gotta work the lenght, sure. But i still bet for it vs BT's level 11 anytime.

Your intimate knowledge of Battletoads has sucked all of the enjoyment out of this joke.

Technically, the speederbikes are in Turbo Tunnel, but morb properly grasps the larger issue: your knowledge of Battletoads is just depressing.

  •  TRWTF is that whoever is given this position will be well.... tubes references are getting old... Whoever has this position will literally know nothing about how computers work, let alone simple security related topics ranging from XSS to buffer overflows... if we are lucky they might know what a port number is, in essence anyway.

I'm not sure that is really necessary.  A CEO-type position doesn't need intimate technical knowledge of threats.  It would be a bonus, but more important would be their ability to interpret information and act.  If the technical folks working for the "czar" (oh God... that word...) are intelligent and capable then they should be able to relay necessary information to the boss in a way that is understood without a strong technical background.  Then again, this is government, so the technical people are likely just mediocre hacks promoted through attrition.  Either way, this position really is more of a political and bureacratic appointment more than anything; someone to testify to Congress when the shit hits the fan.

    Precisely.  They need someone to

    1. blame for subsequent mistakes;
    2. confirm all of their ideas for them, regardless of how stupid.
    Nothing more.
