Avatar file size issue
-
I have an avatar I'm trying to use that is 260kB. However, every time I try to set it, I get an error saying the avatar must be smaller than 512kB.
It's 260kB. Last time I checked, that's smaller than 512kB.

What it actually means is 5 * 12, or 60

@RaceProUK try putting this config on the server to free more memory
device=c:\windows\himem.sys device=c:\windows\emm386.exe noems dos=high,umb
That should allow for almost 640kB avatars

yeah see...... that 512KB isn't the size of your upload but the size of the "reprocessed" avatar on disc, the algorithm that processes your avatar can inflate the size significantly.
ingeneral i find that simply reducingthe size of your upload to "close" to display resolutions, I.E. about 300 pixels on a side, will resolve the issue of the rejected upload. though the error could stand to be mroe clear and the upload process should really be doing the downscaling anyway.

@accalia Had a feeling that might be the case
