Clearly the item count is being specified in octal.
You know, for convenience, and clarity.

And confusion, considering the number contains several nines.

Thanks. I wasn't going to say anything because it looked to me like the classic problem of hitting "send" before attaching the attachment. [I'm limited to IE6 here at work due to certain incompatibilities between software from the world's second-largest software company and the largest.]

Which are both considered software companies? Besides, PetroChina has a significantly larger market cap than XOM.
Presumably he was referring to compatibility problems between IBM (largest for revenue, second-largest for market cap) and Microsoft (vice-versa).

Maybe those should be 6es, and their array of octal characters is flawed.

Naw, they're just dealing with pre-ANSI K&R. ("Everybody's favorite trivial change: 8 and 9 are no longer octal digits.")

I think IE does "if isdefined(width) && width<1 then width=1" kind of logic but every other browser does "if !isdefined(width) || width<1 then width=auto". (psuedocodeish)
I ran into that problem a few weeks ago - I didn't even realise as I was posting from my work Mac...
