Creating our first indie game

  • Good day. We are having a startup game to be made and i need your suggestions and recommendation on how it should work and what must be done to make it successful one as an indie game once publish to the game market.

In this article i will show to you what are the basic functionality of our designed game actually it is still in the planning process and surely well make it into developing process once the planning is being finalized to fit the user's satisfaction once our game is being played. To inherit the basic Gaming Etiquette to further make the game playable and for longer longevity of the game to not be uninstalled by the user, meaning to make our game having the taste of addiction.

    I. WHAT IS OUR GAME?

Our game is all about Homonculus. Homunculus Alchemy is an online multiplayer role playing game in which players create their own chibi sized characters called homunculus through pre-made designs. Players then train and feed their homunculus just like the popular Japanese game called Tamagotchi. But the purpose is to gain experience and level up. There is also a pre-made story line in which players can explore and fight monsters to gain gold and equipment.
The game then has a weekly PVP in where players then challenge other players in a PVP in where their characters fight to the death and gain rare equipment and popularity through online rankings.

        A. STORY MODE

Once upon a time, a powerful alchemist has reached the limits of his life
span and decided to have a successor in order for him to pass all of his
accumulated knowledge and wisdom. He then created a homunculus in which
        will be his successor.
The story is set in a medieval fantasy theme similar to the world of
        Log Horizon although chibi mode.

What is the goal of the game?

The goal of the game is to grow your homunculus stronger so you can fight monsters and
      finish the storyline.

How will the player reach the goal?

The player can reach the goal by training its homunculus until it reaches its highest potential.

    What is the gameplay like?

A virtual pet with a twist of turn based RPG elements.

What's the market like for this kind of game?

The market for this game are people who are fan of virtual pets and RPG which I think mostly
    are teenagers and adults.

    What's your target audience?

My target audience are teenager and adults especially those who have played the classic game Monster
    Rancher and Final Fantasy.

What are the unique selling points? What makes this different from the other games on the market?

The unique selling point of this game will be the offline 5 v 5 PVP.

    What is your philosophy?

"DON'T LET OUTSIDE FORCES DISTURB YOUR INNER PEACE"

Why have you chosen to develop this idea?

I have chosen to develop this idea because I think there is a market for this type of game.

    II. GAME FLOW

Here is the created game flow of the game hope you give me/us some constructive criticism to make our game successful. To think we don't have investors and we are dedicated to use our time our resources to make this game possible as it can be.

There you can see the basic idea of our game and what is the flow for it actually its still on the planning phase and your suggestions and recommendation is most welcome.

    III. TARGETED PLATFORM

Actually we are planning to make this game in an mobile app in Android phones, basically once this is set once the first phase is finished on Android we are planning to publish this on IOS mobile devices, to create our audience more on different platforms.

As i say we are an indie wannabe game developers trying to create a game that would fit the world of Gaming and also to make our name on the Game industry as much as possible. We know it would be a long run to be in there at the top like competing Kongregate , Supercell and other Gaming Studios out there but we are willing to take the risk to go further and publish our game and our skills to the world of Gaming. I would be delighted if you have read my article. If you want to invest for us. Actually we are underground software developers that look forward looking opportunities on Game Development. This is just our part-time task and willing to make this happen.Hoping for your utmost considerations. Thank you for dropping by.

(c)Atazhai for the questions to fully furnished the game concept.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

    planning plan

    Planning to plan, eh?

The login flow looks suspicious. What happens if someone logs in from a different device? What happens if someone does a reset of their system (because of a boot loop, for example) and has to log in a second time?

  • @dkf actually were gonna use the google game account login credentials for the app

  • @falsify said in Creating our first indie game:

and also to make our name on the Game industry as much as possible.

What's the difference between your game and a bajillion of F2P games that are flooding the Android market? Because I swear I've seen that one before.

  • @Maciejasjmj as i mention above our inspiration for this is the tamagotchi and monster rancher our goal here is not to create unusual game but to make our own indie game to be publish later on once the development of the first phase is released. I've want to experience how to create game because its just our past-time hobby and i believe that later on once the game is released therell be critics and those critics we will make it as a stepping stone to obtain a great game.

Judging by the "PVP" and other things, I assume it's going to be a MMO. Do you have your server architecture planned out?

  • Java Dev

@falsify So then... First of all, give me your high concept. That's your idea explained in one or two sentences. No more.

Then there's a few other questions you can answer:

    • What is the goal of the game?
    • How will the player reach the goal?
    • What is the gameplay like?
    • What's the market like for this kind of game?
    • What's your target audience?
    • What are the unique selling points? What makes this different from the other games on the market?
    • What is your philosophy? Why have you chosen to develop this idea?

I'm also unsure why you have a graph detailing the UI flow. Something more useful would be a graph detailing the intended game flow. I could ask more (annoying) questions too, but I'm stuck on a train being tired with a light headache atm so that may happen later.

The Android market is flooded with low quality shovelware. It lacks quality stuff.

By quality I mean a good implementation. A good just another tower defense will sell more than a bad done innovative idea.

  • @Maciejasjmj not yet at this moment do you have suggestions ?

@falsify said in Creating our first indie game:

    offline 5 v 5 PVP

Offline, so 10 people share the same screen?

  • @falsify said in Creating our first indie game:

Don’t let outside forces disturb your inner peace.

Does that have anything to do with your game, or just your philosophy for life in general?
