Through context of the uses I've seen I assumed it meant "sarcasm". But I'm not sure.I seems to me in this particular context you might have used
:tangerine:
as a mark of having gone on a tangent.I did find this:
@FrostCat said in The Official Good Ideas Thread™:Heh. I knew that had to be the other explanation.
The joke is just that Santa's[2] in the episode (not a spoiler, he was in the trailer) and at the beginning a couple of elves are talking about how he always leaves tangerines with his other presents[1] and the elves think its' stupid because nobody likes tangerines, and later the Doctor says the same thing.
[1] Is leaving a tangerine some kind of English thing?
[2] Nick Frost, which cracked me up once I looked up who the actor was on IMDB.
And later in the same thread:

@accalia started it. See, there wasn't a good emoji for angry; if you type

@Yamikuronue IIRC, it was accidental the first time, but quickly became a standard use, at least for our resident vixen.

Clearer than (a joke that totally doesn't work on since it's now both eight pointed and black)

This seems to be a more recent post than the ones I quoted before.
Which is not to say you're wrong. I just means I failed to find the earliest appearance.
The googles aren't doing nothing for me.

@Zecc yeah, frostcat was talking about his statement "nobody likes " (which is a Dr Who quote) in that first link. You'll also see accalia mentioning that it's a synonym for a little above; IIRC she also hadn't seen the Dr Who thing.
-
@RaceProUK Heh, I think I've personally used all of those already.
I've definitely used while trolling in a post about Windows>7 UI.

In the Politics threads (mostly in the Trolleybus Garage), can also refer to Donald Trump, presumably because he apparently has a weird, artificially tanned skin color.

I kinda use it like that. I put in for a change of scenery.
I'm basically just trolling using alternative trolling emoji.

@Onyx I'll just assume any out-of-place emoji to mean trolling from now on

While your hypothesis doesn't hold in every case, it's close enough for government work.
@Onyx I like using
Yes, but you are special, my princess.

sometimes. other times it autocorrects to "poop" as that's the more PC term.

I think so, as it's just "trolling" like all the other alternatives.

I'm still confused about . I mean, I know it's a reference to the Thread we Shalt not Mention but I don't know what that title is referring to, except perhaps it was just a random phrase someone set the thread title to back when we could change the names of threads. It was during the dark period when I didn't participate much here.
-
@The_Quiet_One It works for me. I don't like and I don't like the thread it is associated with.

Pretty much. There was the usual evolution of titles.
Shame that history got lost.
-
@The_Quiet_One The thread title was something about "Would Wario make Guacamole?" at one point. I think somehow Transgender mutated through various four-syllable words until it became Guacamole.

Wrong. It went there via whack-a-mole.
Which I assume referred to how some of the arguing seemed to work.
Using to refer to LGBT issues happened long long after the thread had guacamole in its name.
-
@aliceif I remember Wario being there, but think it's right about whack-a-mole > guacamole.
@ben_lubar is there anyway to retrieve the history from the Discodump?

Funny you should ask about that. I decided late last night that I wanted to set up some !!SCIENCE!! on the three forum databases, so I'm currently struggling to get them imported into a VM.

This post is deleted!

@aliceif hah, I just realized I hadn't caught that accidental downvote. Blame @ben_lubar if you noticed ^^

@The_Quiet_One I don't know if it's related, but I've found this:

I asked about a while back and was told it came from devil's advocate -> devil's avocado -> guacamole.

Devil's Advocate, Devil's Avocado, Guacamole of Doom
That was the etymology.

Maybe @ben_lubar can dig up the title changes from the old Discourse data set and give us the complete transition over time?

Yeah, there were multiple things going on and multiple people changing it. I'd be shocked if there were really any clean etymology involved. Just like with real words.
-
@boomzilla I remember not wanting to hide the thread because the title changes were amusing as hell, even though I never clicked into it because
-
@Yamikuronue For a while I remember referring to it as the Wario thread.
-
@boomzilla yeah, Wario was in the thread for a long time. Infact, it's a shame it's frozen where it is, without Wario. It should have been renamed back to one of the Wario titles.
