Whoever put the spongebob style time cards in: I love it!
(For now. Until I get annoyed, which will probably happen in a few days)I'm reading them in this voice

Where?
-
@wharrgarbl userscript. Probably in the stylish topic.

Is he in New Zealand or something?
-
somewhere near that timezone at least.
-
I really liked the slight angle one. That was evil in an CDO-triggering way.
-
@CarrieVS It's setup in the CSS ahead of time, using some js that fills in
data-
attributes on<html>
with the current date, and css selectors that trigger on April 1st based on that (also Halloween).
-
@hungrier so it triggers based on the viewer's local time? That's cool.
-
@CarrieVS so we can see posts of it's first victims complaining and going ?
It kind of took the surprise away
-
@wharrgarbl I guess. But it means it does actually occur on the first of April.

i hate forced jokes.
doing an april 1st joke on the fifth of november could be funny because it is unexpected
doung it on the first day of the fourth month is expected, so it's not funny, it's also forced because you expected it.

Psh, I had my personal web site doing that before it was even cool...
-
@anotherusername
Personal website doing it: maybe cool.
Using CSS to do it: COOL!
-
@izzion IIRC I was doing it with Javascript. CSS was significantly less evolved at the time... it was back in the day, when DHTML was an itty bitty baby,
document.write
was the in thing to do, and there were only a handful of different styles that you could even change from a script...

Yeah, yeah, mobile, different. But goddammit.
Spongebob cards? Fine, cute little thing.
Spongebob cards filling half the screen on mobile? I guess that happens.
Spongebob cards filling half the screen on mobile and showing up between every single pair of posts? JESUS FUCK BLUBAR.
-
@Maciejasjmj Oh ew, it's between every post? (it's still the 31st here)
-
@Yamikuronue I'm glad here April 1st will start only on saturday
-
-
@Yamikuronue didn't you notice it's already April 1st in some countries?
-
@wharrgarbl said in Necro-post time cards:

It actually started on Friday for me. If you work out the time of my original post you'll notice that it wasn't April 1st anywhere in the world yet
-
@cark do you use some different calendar?
-
@wharrgarbl
Yes, I use the "System-time-in-local-timezone-to-keep-windows-happy-but-makes-linux-think-its-11-hours-ahead" calendar
-
Ewwww... blackhole that.
If it was just the existing ones, it'd be clever and cute, but...
-
I remember a time when this sort of thing used to be a scavenger hunt: "What subtle tweak did they make this year for shits and grins?" Now it's a different puzzle: "How do I pick apart the most blatant effects so I can use the forum?"
Just the upvote/downvote would have been funny ^^
-
I really don't get why some people are acting like this thing shot their puppy
It's funny, Ben
The time cards are kind of big though
-
@bb36e At least three people have told me they're not coming to the forums at all today, but I don't think it's that bad. It's just... not good, either. Over the top.

Fucking hell it's not that bad.

Considering, IIRC from stats, most people come here at work and don't bother visiting on the weekends....

Hey, I really enjoy this.
-
@PJH Yeah. But Sekret PM Club is usually pretty jumpin' on the weekends, and that's where they were telling me, so...

To paraphrase: one man's joke is another man's torture
-
It's funny how much people hate to scroll 800px more per post. It's just a couple joules additional energy per hour!
-
@bb36e said in Necro-post time cards:

They're damn obnoxious on mobile, where the cards are bigger than some posts. I'd post a screenshot, but apparently the screenshots from my phone are too big.

I'd say that size correlates with amount of meaningful content. And that's alroght for me
-
@abarker They're a bit big. It's not like it renders the site unpossible to use though.
-
@loopback0 You're right. They're just obnoxious, like I said.

@abarker Yeah, the comment was more aimed to the people making it out to be a Big Deal™.

Yes, I use the "System-time-in-local-timezone-to-keep-windows-happy-but-makes-linux-think-its-11-hours-ahead" calendarWhen I on this forum mentioned Windows and Linux having started fighting about the system clock on my computer I was told how to tell Windows that the hardware clock is using UTC time. Just involves adding a line to the registry.
To fix it, just hit Start and type regedit.exe in the search box. Hit Enter and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation. Right click anywhere in the right pane and hit New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it RealTimeIsUniversal, then double click on it and give it a value of 1.
Rebooting and resyncing the clock should then have Windows work properly with an UTC clock.
