I was surprised to find this in my inbox a few days ago.

Dear Renan, I am sorry to bother you with this unsolicited email. I came across this thread in MSDN forum about Plug-in algorithms for MS SQL Server, which you created and I became very interested, because you were saying that you are working on your own plugin clustering algorithm, which is area I will like to learn something about. I am sorry, if you are not the person who created that thread. Would you be so kind and let me know if you would be so kind and show me how did you implement clustering plug-in algorithm?

I didn't even know about the aforementioned forum. Someone with a name that looks like mine (but spelled differently) posted whatever caught this guy's attention. Anyway, I'm wondering if I should reward Vlad's "send me teh codez" attempt by making his email publicly known in this forum and others.

I don't see why punishing him (which would obviously be the intent of doing that) is really necessary. I mean, it's not like he actually did anything wrong. He needed help with something, and tried to find a contact who knew something about it to ask. Now, given, he didn't ask in quite the right way... but English is very obviously not his native language, and it could be simply a result of the language barrier. He might have meant something like:

Hi there. I found your email address on this forum: link. My apologies if you're not the correct person... etc etc etc... I'm implementing something very similar, but I'm having some trouble with it. Since you have some experience doing this, I was wondering if you would be so kind as to answer a question or two by pointing me in the right directions. Thanks alot!

Obviously, when phrased this way, the request isn't nearly so inane. I think, without knowing anything else about this guy besides that he's a programmer, is capable of searching google and a programming forum for answers, and has a bit of trouble with English, he deserves at least the benefit of the doubt.

Frankly, I don't really see a problem here, albeit maybe a bit of a laugh at seeing another variant of the "send me teh codez" email. I think, doing something with the intent of hurting this guy is a little silly.

That was just me playing BOfH on him. Well, he was sensible enough to ask for the alghoritm, not the actual code... This shows that he intends to implement himself a version of that alghoritm instead of just throwing random code in an application and hoping it works. Thumbs up for him.

And I wouldn't disclose his email here even if he were daft enough to ask for actual source code - in that case, I would just follow DaveK's advice.

Yes. "You are likely to be ignored or written off as a loser".

Not "You are likely to have your personal contact details posted to a variety of public forums so as to be berated and humiliated by a variety of people you don't know"

There's a big difference. However, the OP has already stated he wasn't serious, so it's of little consequence.
