"Shoulder aliens": Etymology

I've been wondering for a while now: Where did the term "shoulder alien" even come from? The forum search didn't help much.

blakeyrat used it as a source of the "lies" and "misinformation" that were circulating about him. I've heard differing accounts as to the veracity of the statements attributed to shoulder aliens, but have not independently verified these assertions.
i'm not sure if he was the ultimate source, but he's the one i remember

@asdf I think it was a blakeyism. When someone's response included information that wasn't in blakey's post (or at least when he thought so) he'd accuse people of having little aliens on their shoulders, whispering stuff to them. And the people were listening to the aliens instead of reading what he wrote.

Same here. I was wondering whether there's some kind of original story/thread which caused the widespread use of the term.
-
@asdf I get the feeling it's just a variation on the classic shoulder angel/devil thing

That was my mental image as well, but it's somewhat disappointing. I want flamewars! Special effects! Ragequits!

Oh, BTW: Seems like I've lost the password for @shoulderaliens. :(
Once upon a time, it was supposed to become a bot, but then laziness happened.

And then the murders began.
Or maybe not.

I'll PM you the password.
Edit: When I changed the password on that account, it redirected to my profile, which terrified me.

The #1 marketing slogan of the 1970s.

@asdf oldest reference nodebb can find is from @boomzilla

Edit: triple

@groo Google found an older reference from @blakeyrat. I also found an older reference from @flabdablet (prior to the one you found but after the blakey post) but you have to find that yourself.
-
@boomzilla you're the same person*, so my previous post is still kind of correct
*the little aliens told me so

blakey-ism that he posted 2 months before your boomzila-ism:

Extra bonus fun: I had to manually edit the link because NodeBB gives me a link that is off by one (the link ends with

instead of the correct12
).

Unlike those pesky invisible shoulder aliens.
