The page number on nodebb links is useless
-
If something is at page 50 it will be at a different page for someone with a different posts per page configuration. Anyone clicking on it will get to a different place.
It could have the number of the first post of the page on the link.

@fbmac Plus, pages are pointless concepts for infiniscroll.

Like happened with the old toxic hellstew PHP forum software?

The page number only seems to appear on the page navigator. As soon as you scroll, it puts the post number in the URL as expected.
I assume that post numbers are not necessarily lineal and continuous (deleted posts, etc), which means it's not trivial to make the page navigator link directly to the post number.

Hmmm.... yeah, I think page links are just ethereal and not designed to be permalinks, much less shared. I can't think of any real reason to give someone else a page link instead of a link to a specific post.
I could see the logic of making them a relative (to the topic) link, as used to be more common before permalinks became a thing -- i.e., page 1 of this thread would be a link to /topic/22277/1 instead of /post/1117960 (the relative post number is easily calculable, and it's not linked to a PID of any post -- so if the first post on the page gets jeffed, a relative link won't follow the post to wherever it's gone) -- but ultimately they're not really meant for sharing.

It's maybe not a common thing but it's still trivially solved.
At least we're not in which gives the paginated view to Google (et al) but the Infiniscroll™ view to users. Then it might be an issue.

Post numbers are linear and continuous. That's why they make terrible permalinks.
