You mean, I can't carry a bottle of water with me ?
-
@TimeBandit Do you have any idea how many people die from that stuff?

You actually carry dihydrogen monoxide around with you? Are you crazy?
-
-
@blek Bah. It would only be impressive if the water bounced while pouring. No hat, no gloves. It ain't cold.

That thermometer really threw me for a WTF. The ones I'm used to have degrees C on one side, degrees F on the other.
-
@anotherusername In soviet Czechia, is always zero on filthy capitalist pigdog scale of temperature measuring.

-13C = 8.6F.
Wimps. I still remember that day in Chicago (well, west of) where the temperature with wind chill was -70F. That was cold.
-

If that happened in the middle of summer or in, say, southern Italy, that would be newsworthy. In northern/central Europe in winter, um, not so much.

Yes, even on a Canadian scale !

@blek Now toss the water out of the pitcher up into the air. If any liquid hits the ground, it's not cold.

We get like that here, with no liquid hitting the ground, but that's because it evaporates first.

"I know the initial inclination of some people will say it's pretty strange to give a natural resource a legal personality," said New Zealand's Treaty Negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson.
"But it's no stranger than family trusts, or companies or incorporated societies."
How is that not completely 100% correct and reasonable?
-
@blek said in In other news today...:
@boomzilla I've seen a segment on evening news here about "holy shit guys, it's really cold outside!" (in like December). Part of the segment was that they left a small bottle of water outside for a few hours and then showed how it froze into a block of ice. The whole thing was several excruciating minutes long, with a live report and everything.
Must have been fake.

Family trusts, companies, and incorporated societies represent groups of people, in one fashion or another. They are legal entities that represent the interests of a group of people.
Based on the way the article presented things, the river has been granted legal status, to be represented by two people. It's not quite the same thing as a family trust.
-
@abarker said in In other news today...:
It's not quite the same thing as a family trust.
Not quite. Unlike the family trust, the river actually existed before being granted legal personhood; it wasn't just completely made up out of whole legal cloth.
I think granting legal personhood to an actual real ecosystem feature makes more sense than just making one up.

But that would also actually be an interesting demonstration if it worked. It's not what was in the video, but it would be pretty cool.
