"Fresher can also, appie" (A WTF Job)

  • ♿ (Parody)

Every now and then, some one posts a "WTF" they found in one of the Non-WTF Jobs. You know... because the job doesn't pay enough (big WTF!), or because it's in the wrong city (mega WTF!), or because *brace yourself* there's a typo (holy uber WTF).

Of course, what you don't see is that jobs that don't quite make it. Here's one of the more "memorable" job listings that one of the HN guys sent over...

  • WTF is appie?   Also, has anyone posted a WTF job like this one:

    Headline: spamming TDWTF forums

    Sub-Heading: www.fakepaycheckstubs.com

    Line1:  Solving Captchas

    Line2:  Hated by all

    Line3:  Scum of the earth

    Line4:  Cheat taxes

    WTF was that video about?

  • Holy carp, CS allows you can make attachments?

As an aside note, *cough* JPEG *cough*.

    Let me attempt to translate...

    Data entry jobs

    Online data entry jobs

    • No experience needed.
    • Freshers can also apply.
    • We can guide how to work.
    • Work only online.
    • Only gullible people with no knowledge of how to use a spell-checker need apply.
    • Warning; reading this advert may kill your pets, and get your sister pregnant (don't ask).

it's just a stupid thing playing off the internet meme of the rickroll.

I'm guessing that's what "data entry" was a euphemism for in the first job.  That or handling stolen credit card numbers.

Actually, the duckroll (photo only) was the predecessor of rickroll.  The picard song is just awesome.

Appie is the colloquial name for Albert Heijn, a big Dutch supermarket.

It's short/slang for "apprentice" in my parts.

  • I don't get it, you're showing a screenshot of the edit page for an ad, with almost everything spelt wrong?

How do we know that you didn't just type this?

  • Can we quit the file format nonsense, please?

Nope. I've declared a jihad on JPEG screenshots. I'll try not to chime in too often, though.

By the way, thanks for the sign, gremlin.

Actually, I just saw the image here, and I thought it was funny. But I'll join you in your jihad, I do find it annoying, especially on a forum like this where you would hope people would know better, and when it takes no extra effort to do it properly.

Maybe that's the screen he gets when he is reviewing the applications.  You do realize that he owns theDailyWTF, right?

Huh!  Where are your tin-foil hats?  People who post JPEGs *care* about whether the NSA can read the images off your screen using TEMPEST!  They're trying to help you!

I'll make sure to post any screenshots as BMP's or lossless TIFFs.

The irony is that if Alex had printed out the screenshot, taken a photo of it on a wooden table and posted the resulting considerably-less-readable JPEG, people would have been creaming their pants about it.

The great thing about using CSS is that all of those style definitions can be moved to an external file, thus reducing bandwidth over conventional table-based images or bloated formats like BMP or PNG.

And with a little Javascript wizardry, you get anim00ted graphics, something PNG and BMP just cannot do.  Sites like imageshack can then overlay embedded ads onto your hosted images; ads that cannot be blocked.
