"Eating this computer part that is a computer part and not food does not feel the same as eating food that is not a computer part. More at 10."

This is really turning into a "don't think about pink elephants" thing, isn't it?
Place your bets on how long it's gonna take before someone gets a cartridge stuck in his windpipe.
-
On the other hand, DS cartridges didn't really have any taste to them ...

DS cartridges are harder to swallow.

Which is exactly what this is supposed to prevent.

@CarrieVS At least this way, instead of killing children and making everyone sad, it'll kill adults who'll then be nominated for a Darwin Award.

@El_Heffe Talentless hacks are paid to act like idiots in front of a camera in a desperate attempt to make people care about a product nobody with a brain asked for which solves a problem nobody with a brain has ever had. Film at 11. Oh, and shame on you for direct linking to Polygon.

It's not that, it's actually got that bitter stuff you put on your nails to break a nail-biting habit on it. It doesn't just taste like plastic, it's actively offensive to stop kids from swallowing it.
-
@Yamikuronue Except it doesn't always work. My cousin used that stuff to try and break her daughter's thumb-sucking habit. The daughter quickly figured out that the tastes goes away if you just keep sucking.
Of course, she's also the kind of kid who had to go to the ER for swallowing penny, not once, not twice, but three times.

huh. well some kids don't learn too fast.

huh. unless there's a copper allergy, and assuming the GI tract big enough, and if she's old enough that stopping finger sucking's an issue so i'm going to assume that it is..... I'd have let the penny pass. maybe it would prove a more.... presonal lesson. :-)

@accalia
Learning... sounds like work.Seems @abarker's cousin once removed inherited some traits from @abarker's side of the family.

I didn't deliberately do that but I'd forget not to suck my thumb and after a few times it didn't taste bad any more.
They finally got me to stop (the first time) by cleaning my hands with white spirit after I was painting with something non-water based, and telling me I'd die if I sucked my thumb now even though they'd supervised me washing my hands thoroughly.
I started again after a couple of years. Gave up twice more - last time aged 11-12 - through them shaming me for it. Decided to start again a few years ago and I'm too old for them to force me to stop. I like sucking my thumb.

@abarker Surely there are stronger substances... mix it with capsaicin?

If you're looking at one of the older, pure copper pennies, you're probably fine. The problem is with pennies made since 1983 with the zinc core and thin copper plating. The newer pennies end up losing some or all of the copper plating, allowing the stomach acid to react with the zinc, possibly leading to stomach ulcers. Depending on how the penny is eaten away, it can develop sharp edges as well, which means that the intestine may get sliced as the penny passes.
So the question at this point becomes: do you feel lucky?
ETA: Current recommendations are to watch the kid for stomach distress and check their stool to see if the coin passes. If it hasn't passed within a couple days, take them to the doctor. If stomach distress (stomach pain or vomiting) occurs, take them to the ER.

no, but i also don't eat coinage.

The chocolate that makes decades-old Easter bunnies seem good. Don't eat that coinage, either.
-
@boomzilla Dollars might be the currency used in oil trade, but I see euros control the international chocolate coin market.

@coderpatsy I like how that diagram implies there's dogs and babies that do videogame journalism
-
@RaceProUK They'd probably do a better job than some of the current journalists.

Plenty of videogame journalists call week well within each category...
-
@RaceProUK Or that the vast majority of babies don't try to eat small objects.
-
@CarrieVS Only those babies that are also dogs and video game journalists do.
-
@anonymous234 I have an idea that maybe someone was a little confused about what venn diagrams signify.

Fixed:

@Yamikuronue
You are giving video game journalists a lot of credit

I think there are some that don't eat small non-food items.
-
@Yamikuronue I'd say the intersection of babies and dogs is non-empty.
-
-
@CarrieVS It depends on your definition of babies. A newborn dog is, to me, a puppy, not a baby.
