I know. Do I get a price?
Not telling here so's not to ruin it for everyone else. I mean, there is no rewind...

Is £4.99 a good price? :P

@Mikael_Svahnberg Rewind or just wind? I remember an emergency toolkit for the latter.

I… whut?
Seriously, I've read that sentence five times, and I just can't figure it out.
-
True, if by 👴/👵 you mean "over 20"
-
@RaceProUK I tried converting that into the old £sd system, but now I have a headache.

Psst, here's a secret: winding in one direction automatically rewound the other.

Old Man divided by Old Woman?
Is this some sorta newfangled Emoji Math?
-
It was used for situations where you were too cheap to buy a new cassette player, because if you needed to use that method it was probably a piece of crap.
Or, there was a child who loved playing with your tapes and made a mess of them. Not that I ever did that...

@RaceProUK You use the pen to write the contents on the label, duh.
in obsessively tiny writing so you can fit all the track names into those squitty little boxes

You should see the reels that weren't in a case! A pen isn't gonna help you much with those!

That picture is misleading. This one is more a real-world scenario:
-
@RaceProUK I know!
But I used Stabilos, not Bics.
-
@RaceProUK without reading the rest of this thread, I'd say the pen makes a good winding utensil. Tapes of various kinds were still a thing for the first several years of my life, mainly because it's what my parents had lying around and I liked messing with technology. But I don't remember using a pen to wind tapes - my own finger was small enough.

But BASF tapes are probably rather accurate, I'd assume.

It is not just any pen! It is a Bic.
-

Latest tapes I read, I rolled between two opposed electricity poles in the street in front of the house to block traffic and drivers.
-
@Onyx I mostly remember using TDK actually.
-
@aliceif Yeah, (at the prices we were willing to pay) BASF were generally crappy ferrics, TDK type II chrome were more bang for the buck.
But they still went all wobbulatery after a while.

If you remember the old £sd system, you're truly an onion belt. It had something to do with Kool-Aid, I think.

FLAGGED FOR WRONG!
You don't write the track names in pen. You write them in PENCIL!
Because eventually you'll tape over the contents to make a new tape.
Because tapes are EXPENSIVE.

Well yeah. $4.68 for only 60 MB? I can get ~266 times as much storage, in a much smaller format, for around the same price.

The only reason I know that system exists at all is that Monty Python sketch where they buy an artificial brain and they show "OLD SKETCH WRITTEN BEFORE DECIMALIZATION" on the screen or something.

@Jaloopa Once a friend of mine had a worm problem. So he started to eat an hamburguer followed by a can of coke, every day, exactly at 18:00 PM.
2 weeks later, he sit with just the burger and a hammer. He ate it and the worm's head came out of his mouth saying: hey dude, where is my soda? And he killed it with the hammer.

Is it bad that I imagined the thing looking like the ones you'd find on Arrakis?
