I suppose it beats XML entities.

Yes, but who was it who told you that? Fellow entities, right? Seems there's something circular about that.

Yeah, there are a ton of (eventually) circular references in my memory systems. It can be really annoying when things quite literally describe themselves as alternate versions of themselves. Like, for example, AudibleLanguage->English{Accent:American1}. WTF even?!
The sad part is that I don't have tooling to fix shit like that, so stay it must! Stupid optimization worker converting everything to mapLinks...

Bucket 1: Isn't that everybody by definition? I mean, why apply for a job you don't want?
Bucket 2: This is pretty much everybody too. Unless you're switching from software developer to masseuse, I guess.
Bucket 3: This is the first bucket that doesn't include 99% of all applicants, and the first bucket it's worth dipping into.
Bucket 4: "When are you available for interview? Great! We'll see you then!"Bucket 1: I want a job. Any job. Do you have a job? I've sent this exact email to every HR department I could find.
Bucket 2: I want a job in {industry}. Any job in {industry}. You are in {industry}, do you have a job? I've sent this exact email to every HR department in {industry} I could find.
Bucket 3: I have actually read the job title you posted and am applying to the job. I may not actually be qualified because I only read the title and not any of the description, roles or responsibilities.
Bucket 4: actual people worth interviewing, who have demonstrated in their CV/cover letter that they understand what the job entails and have relevant experience

Alternatively:
Bucket 3: I didn't apply to you directly, but this agency that sent my CV to you thinks I'm suitable.Don't knock it: I've found four jobs via agencies, including my current one.

Or I'm just not a good programmer. Have you considered that possibility?

rock stars
Lots of people say they want to hire rock stars, but instead actually go for prima donnas.
In another forum, we always say "When the employers say there is not enough talent in the market, it always means 'there is not enough talent who want to work with cheap salary in the market' ".

I have a clue, have read and understand what the job entails, but lack experience and may only be interested because I need to start somewhere and this job doesn't look terrible or too far from what I want to do.

In short, have a clue about "those companies that treat employees like slave".
Usually, when new jobseeker contact those agents, they will attempt to land you to jobs that can give them biggest amount of commission. And we all know that most such companies will pay generous amount of commission are "those companies that treat employees like slave" because if they don't give enough incentives for the agents, no one will try to refer the candidate to them (getting candidate joining companies that treat their staffs good is easier).
If you know nothing about which company is good or bad, the agents will usually try these companies for you first. But if you can recognize some of these names and immediately tell them you heard bad things from these companies and have no intention to join them, the agent will usually switch back to the "whiter list" because they also fear that if they suggest enough number of these "bad companies", you'll got annoyed and go for other job agents.
So showing them you know some of these bad companies is important.
Of course, if the agent continue to suggest bad company to you, just stop wasting your time and find another agent.

@RaceProUK and I are both in the UK so wouldn't be much use talking about specific agencies but I've never really built up a relationship with specific ones. Just find good looking jobs on job sites, and tailor your CV/cover letter to accentuate the experience they want. If you get through to an interview, for junior roles enthusiasm and evidence of programming as a hobby will show you're willing to learn and not just in it for the money

Or do what I did and literally stalk the President and reverse engineer the location of the new headquarters they just finished moving into the week prior! That will definitely turn heads!
(though, seriously, don't do that. I only got away with it due to my sheer awesomeness)

When I was contracting, I went through an agency called Randstad; their benefits sucked, but they find a lot of companies that hire contractors if you're looking for something to transition to permanent. I'm not sure they're better or worse than any other, but they're not like, a total scam.

It's worse! They are Dutch.
