waterproof
That's good news. You wouldn't want one of those crappy porous $130 water bottles.
-
@PJH What exactly does it track? Does it track the bottle's location? 'Cuz for $129, my biggest concern would be, where did my kid leave it when he ran off to play?

I'd rather just donate the $129 directly to a revelant charity.

Probably stats like "how many ounces of water did they drink today".
Meaning that those kids who get super-competitive over everything are going to look at it like a leaderboard, and at some point one of them's gonna end up with water intoxication.

whihc would be impressive. it's HARD to push the body that far.
also, the geeks are just going to figure out they can cheat. the water just has to go into the bottle, then come out again.... it doesn't HAVE to go in the mouth. :-P

What if my child learns how to cheat?
We know that some clever kids explore other options to make their pets happy. Gululu is designed to record hydration only if the water is consumed, and not poured out. Our proprietary algorithm in the Gululu Interactive Bottle can sense when the water is being poured out.
However, this bottle does not detect the types of liquid inside the bottle. But we find that if you tell the kids that their Gululu pets only grows well with water, kids would understand.

so they have to get more clever to cheat.
it's still possible!

My guess: tip the bottle halfway and let water trickle out at a reasonable pace, tilting it up slightly every so often to simulate a swallow.

Why are we considering hacking a device that's supposed to teach children how to drink water?
Let natural selection do its thing, say I!

@Onyx People are always looking for things that will magically make their lives better without actually needing any effort on their behalf. The latest of those things is hydration. Not feeling right? Too tired after work? Drink more water! IT FIXES EVERYTHING.

As long as nobody figures out how to connect it to twitter, and post every time their kid takes a sip...
... actually, nevermind. It'd hardly make the signal-to-noise ratio worse, there.

I think you mean alcohol. Vodka is about 40% ABV.
-
@dangeRuss Doesn't matter, it still wouldn't be fit to drink.

Different places have different tasting water. Some places, it's awful. Others, it's
great… well, nicer anyway.

Get a filter jug: it'll get rid of all the crap that gives water that shitty taste.

Doesn't work. I've tried filtered, unfiltered, bottled, I can't stand any of it. I have to dump some form of flavoring into it, and most of the time that pretty much negates drinking water anyway.

Have you tried carbonation? I don't particularly like drinking plain water, but don't mind it so much when it's carbonated.
-
I don't know if drinking plain water is all that beneficial to you anyway. It makes you less thirsty for proper drinks like coffee and Red Bull, and is a straight route for a potentially fatal caffeine deficiency.

Even carbonated water usually tastes like crap. I don't know if it's just that my tastebuds are super-tuned to "extreme" type flavors (Hot wings, lemons, dark chocolate, lots of salt, etc) but unless I was also dumping flavoring/sugar into it (so basically just making soda anyway), I still couldn't stand it.

Try filling a jug with cold water and adding things like pineapple, watermelon, mint, etc. to make it a bit less like water.

Repeat that a few billion times, and you'll have the chemical composition of metallic hydrogen.

We're out of ethanol, but we have some methanol which our chemist assures us is almost the same. Will that be OK?

Ask, say, Leah Betts, about that(1). And yeah, I can't imagine managing to down 7 litres of water in 90 minutes, but she did.
(1) You'll need to hire a medium. She's dead, after all. Of water intoxication and hyponatremia and the accompanying swelling of the brain, they say.

I may be talking out of my ass here, but maybe try training your taste buds? Cut out all soda, don't add sugar to your drinks, etc. Eventually carbonated water is going to taste pretty good.
I love my sweets, but I don't normally drink soda, and I don't even have sugar in the house (although we do have honey). I do drink Perrier/St. Pellegrino with some juice mixed in for taste (and sometimes plain).
