But, I can't wait for Windows 2082 to be available?!

  • Not sure why Vista thought this was going to take 74 years to complete :)

  • Care to tell us what exactly we're meant to be looking at? I see nothing but your comment and a BIG HONKING EMPTY SPACE.

Well, if you click reply to the original post, and then click the 'quote' button without highlighting anything, you get to see the URL "http://www.helifreak.com/picture.php?albumid=1506&pictureid=11184", which apparently is a 1x1 white gif.  So, it's a good question, but I'm not sure how the original poster derives it from a 1x1 white gif image.  I'm also uncertain why she felt the need to make it a big, honking 1x1 gif by giving it a fairly sizable height and width.

  •  I'm not sure why the image isn't working for you guys. I didn't have a place to put it besides my Helifreak account.

It is a dialog box showing a file copy estimated to take "about" 27181 days and 6 hours remaining

  • Oh, well it's a nice gesture but unfortunately it's rather common, and that particular type of thing has lost it's charm.

In face, we don't even notice it anymore - it's not "WTF" it's "meh" these days.

Use a real pic host, not some forum where you log in.

  •  That's an absolutely gorgeous dialog. I can't wait to get Vista.

Am I the only one who read that as Hell Freak?

The best part is that the transfer is two thirds done, so you've already waited for about 18,000 days so far. At this point you should just wait it out rather than cancel.

Isn't this the famous bug that The Register refers to as "The Long Goodbye"?

Not quite.  Supposing that exactly two thirds are complete and one third remains, and speed is constant (which is obviously not the case), then you have been waiting for 54362 days and 12 hours.

Hmm, I seem to have had trouble posting:

You also seem to have trouble understanding when you should send something to the site admin, or when you should post it to the forums.

The icing on the cake is that you managed to post it twice. How does it feel to not even be able to use the forum software?

Vista must have been in development for longer than we thought.  How the OP got such an early beta, we may never know, unless she decides to tell us before the file transfer is complete.

TRWTF is programmers who try to guess how long a task will take.  Seriously, why do they insist on doing this?  Why not something more logical like "X bytes out of Y transferred"

TRWTF is quoting the same picture 50 times in this thread.

So, in that spirit, ME TOOO!!!!!1!!!!~

  •  Oh the irony! It seems that one of the four times I got that error it actually went through, but it was slow enough that it didn't show up when I reviewed the thread after.  It didn't even show up when I left and re-entered the thread (no, I didn't Refresh or Reload...).  Anyhow, enough with the glaring off-topic-ness.

That's what the 'More information' button is for.
