More than 5 tabs makes pages unresponsive
-
Having multiple tabs open to the forum (5 on a good internet connection, fewer on a poor connection) prevents the system from acknowledging likes or dislikes, opening the reply and quote composer, opening the notification or chat lists, etc. (browser: Chrome 55; OS: Win7Ent; RAM: 8GB; CPU: Intel Core i5 dual-core)

the forum has been one of the causes of Chrome completely dying on me lately.
Oh, and YouTube. Because having a background page not playing a video or anything interactive needs a constant 3kbps stream of data back to Google.

I get the feeling that having more than one tab open for the forum is
For example, if I get a notification, all tabs notice and update the favicon right away. But it's rare that if notification gets marked read that the other tabs will take notice without a cold load.

It's better when the tabs all boop at the same time, my sound card mixes this in such a fashion that it gets amplified enough to shake the chassis.
Even better when they're not in sync, and the pattern of boops is almost convertible from Morse.

+1.
Annoys the drunk me.
The sober me tends to clear the tabs shortly after they've been opened....
Not-so-sober one writing this, if it matters.

The sober me
This exists?
Of course!
Some, but not all, of my posts that contain more than 500 characters in my thread in the lounge might qualify.
Possibly excluding counting characters in the 'email quotes.'
Or around 10am on any given Monday.
Or, this week, Tuesday.

Is there some way for only one tab to be in charge of the websockets connection and all other tabs to just get their data through it?
That would be a nice feature for HTML5 to have.

No, Google killed inter-process communication a long time ago.
