I shouldn't laugh - not nearly as much as I just did.

Explain it to me, then.

I'm not reading this wall of text. I want you to give me a brief explanation so I can laugh without learning anything new.

Pretend the guy is a Muslim imam, the joke works the same.
-
@kt_ I sent you a private message explaining why.
But I can repeat it here.
Gerry Adams was part of Sinn Fein which they said known as the political wing of the IRA which was a Terrorist organisation in Northern Ireland. They bombed the UK in the 80s and 90s. I don't really remember it because I was about 10 at the time.

@lolwhat Do you remember the media blackout in the UK under Thatcher and When they had Gerry Adams or Martin McGuiness on the television they had them Dubbed in English even though they were taking English? I must have been 8 at the time so I barely remember it.
-
@lucas1 Sorry, I don't recall such. I'm an USian anyway; it's just that I savvy international shit better than the average Merk (not that the bar is all that high).
-
@lolwhat oh right, no worries.

Yep - it was legislation passed to stem the "glorification of terrorism", which forbade people linked to terror organisations having their speech broadcast. So the news organisations circumvented it by simply having footage of the speech while having an actor read the lines over the video.
Totally pointless, of course.

@skotl it was hilarious if you look back at it now. People dubbing English over someone talking English with a very thick Northern Irish Accent.
