Sitecore CMS

  • I have been working with a CMS - Content Management System called Sitecore for a little while now and am having some, umm, let's say - headaches.  I am then reading things like this posted on the web:

      Hi Rich,

A really good analysis. You’ve almost got everything right. But I do not agree with your conclusion. That’s the first impression: Sitecore is for “big boys”. Well, it is not. Sitecore has huge performance problems with bigger sites. The beautiful GUI for the editors is a pain in the a**, Sitecores goes down very often, leaving the user with one option: shut IE down via Windows Task Manager.
Many of the features are working as long as you keep it small, few items, otherwise you are in big trouble.
If not implemented 100% right, you will not have time to enjoy the site, but rather you’ll spend it looking at some big log files (> 45 MB) a day. And you really need a geek or at least one man full time dedicated to maintain Sitecore.
And speaking about the lousy client, well they are only working in IE and a verry small part in Firefox.
Well, I could go on, but I will stop here. I’ve also learned this the hard way and even had to change job to escape this nightmare Sitecore is.
Congrats for you analysis. I wonder if the Sitecore guys had read it.

What are other people seeing using this (potentially) over-sold hunk of junk.

  • This probably belongs in the Sidebar, since it sounds WTFy.

Perhaps he did not want to attract your attention and have the thread derailed?

I suppose it is too late for that though.

  •  I'm working with Sitecore at a Sitecore partner for three months now, and I really like it. Ok, the Desktop interface is slow as hell but the whole system is generally of pretty high quality. For my graduation paper I've build a high performance plug-in system for it and I replaced some of the parts of Sitecore to output something other then HTM and it works flawless.

The company I'm working for has build many high-traffic enterprise websites with Sitecore, and from what I know the websites are handling high volumes of traffic without any problems.

  •  Between this and Ektron, it seems like there's a strong market out there for a halfway-decent CMS.  Or maybe the problem is that the entire concept of a CMS is just wrong.

Being a sort of expert in the field of CMS software, I can tell you it is both.  A lot of people want them but usually for the wrong reasons.  And all the CMSes out there suck some discrete quantity of donkey cock.  The fact that FOSS garbage like Drupal is considered top-of-the-line should be a clue.  The Drupal codebase is an ironic punishment worthy of Dante that awaits infidels like Dijkstra.

An expert in CMS? That is like being proud of being an expert in being a virgin or an expert in being on the receiving end of prison rape.

As I said above, CMS software often feels like the latter but makes you wish for the former.

But you are an expert in it. Surely that means you are responsible for at least part of it right?

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

What was that someone said earlier about derailing threads?

    When in Rome...

  • So is there a decent CMS out there or are we doomed to code everything ourselves?

    Ask the expert...

    Community Server, obviously!

Filed under: does community server actually do CMS?

Ahh, it's like a Zen koan.

Nobody knows if Community Server does content management, as nobody has ever tried putting content into Community Server.  So far it has been filled with MFDs and these forums, but until someone actually creates some real content and tries to store it in Community Server, the world will never know...

I'm not an expert in virginity, prison rape or CMSs but I've had good results with Joomla.

I mean, with regard to the CMS part.
