And since I don't have preview on mobile and if the one I'm after doesnt onebox....
-
@PJH Insert the Crocodile Dundee clip here.
Also, onebox is inconsistent... as the one you wanted did in fact onebox:

No inconsistency, I just didn't know (no preview) if that's the one that would be chosen.
-
@PJH Please tell me that squeezing the trigger makes the blade fold back in and slice the user's fingers.

TIL that Cookie Monster is a deadly weapon. Can someone confirm if the right to bear Cookie Monster is covered by the Second Amendment?

He's got arms, don't he?
-
@Dreikin But are they bear arms? After all,
-
@RaceProUK well, they're covered in hair, and if the light's poor you might not be able to tell they're blue instead of brown.

Seems like someone is afraid of weapons instead of the people wielding them:
“You have only got to look at it to see how dangerous it is. You can imagine what could happen if a kid finds that, it would be awful.
“Imagine it being held to someone’s head and they just think it’s a toy gun and try to whack it away.
- Ok, first, kids will be violent or not mostly based on how their parents raise them.
- Second, kids' violent/non-violent tendencies will not be affected by access to any sort of weapon (although their ability to cause damage/injury might).
- Third, this particular piece would be less dangerous to hold to someone's head, if the blade is folded in. Whacking it away would at worst give someone a bruise. If the blade is opened out, then all the normal risks of stabs and cuts apply. Trying to whack away a firearm might cause the person holding it to squeeze the trigger, leading to a bullet in the brain. That's much worse than a few cuts or bruises.
- Fourth, I would be fairly confident that most knife attacks don't involve scary machetes or oddball pieces like this "knife-gun". Nearly every home has numerous long, sharp knives in the kitchen, and workshops and toolsheds would be few and far between that do not contain a long screwdriver. I'd expect that these types of utensils and tools would account for most stabbing and cutting crimes. Should they be prohibited as well?
- Fifth. it looks like it would be difficult to submit things into that "Knife Bin". The submission hole is what?, 5' above the ground? And it won't easily accept any kind of sharp object, like a broken bottle, despite that very thing being shown on the front of the box.

Looks very convenient for getting free knives, too.

A weapons amnesty, with the help of a big blue creature that spends all day stuffing cookies into its mouth. And a character from the muppets.

Final Fantasy VIII wasn't one of the best ones but it's still nice to see it inspiring young people so many years later.

Kids, just take the knife and jump up and down with it. Throw it above your head and aim for the hole.
For safety!

It looks like it's made out of corrugated cardboard.
So someone with a knife can come along and just cut it open.

Shockingly, they don't seem to be a complete and outright scam.
£37k in grants. And £23k in salary. The rest was charitable donation. They spent everything on the weapon awareness campaign.
No work on what Cookie Monster was paid.
-
@djls45 Considering I have more dangerous kit in my toolkit that this knife (I have a dagger which isn't legal but it is a heirloom, it was taken from a German soldier during WW2 and has a Nazi emblem on it).
I also have a Argentinian BBQ kit that looks more dangerous than that knife.

"We have got a zero tolerance approach to anyone carrying a knife or other weapon."
This entire article is batshit crazy, but that line takes it.
-
That is a basically a steak knife and it is ridiculously sharp.
-
Reminds me of this article: http://www.jack-donovan.com/axis/2011/03/violence-is-golden/
-
@SlackerD I love that article.
Violence isn’t the only answer, but it is the final answer.
Pretty much everyone that is reasonable believes in this.

As a resident of NYC...it is very difficult to carry a gun legally.
I married a Puerto Rican...that means I am required to carry at least one knife. At least, that's what he says.
I have several of various sizes. The small one made it through airport security because I forgot about it whereas I had a bag needing additional screening because I had cheese in it (different times).

In ~2006, I went through security at La Guardia with a dozen butane lighters in the front pocket of my carry on. On accident.
TSA is total rubbish.

TSA is total rubbish.
Sometime in 2012, I went to Memphis, with a 3 hours stop in Chicago.
Since I am a smoker, the first thing I did when in Chicago is to go outside and smoke since it was 2~3 hours since the last one. After that, I go back inside, go through security, and go to have lunch.Of course, after lunch, I go back outside to smoke. Come back in again, go through security for the second time.
About 30 minutes before my flight, I go back outside to smoke again.
Come back in, go through security and get stopped, because I didn't get my laptop out of the bag (which I never did the first 2 times). There was 3 TSA agents going through my stuff, making sure my laptop was in working order, etc.And all that time, I kept my lighter in my jeans pocket.
-
@TimeBandit I think it was earlier in this thread I mentioned how I went through security with a dozen butane lighters in my carry on.
We went to NYC, we drank a lot, I had recently stopped smoking but still did when I drank. I kept buying lighters as I would leave them at the hotel in my suitcase when we went out and just bought a new one once I got drunkish. We got home and as I was unpacking I found all these butane lighters in my carry on and realized just how shit TSA actually is.
On that same trip, when we were leaving for NYC we missed our flight because the cab was super late. So we were stuck at the airport waiting on the next flight to NYC and I knew the bartender at the airport (which is another amusing story...) so he proceeded to give us free booze at 8AM. Four hours of drinking later, I am going through security and due to my inebriated nature I get "randomly selected for additional screening".
I had to go through that goddamn spinny x-ray thing with a BAC that was probably north of .15%. They are lucky I did not vomit in the damned thing. I was drunk enough that I forgot my phone at the security checkpoint and had to go the whole trip with no cell phone.
