Am I just unlucky or is that browser extremely prone to freezing and crashing?
In my tablet, when I click a link, it will occasionally "freeze" anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds, during which I can scroll but not click anything. Sometimes it will show that message that "the website is not responding" (don't blame the website for your own problems!). Chrome and Firefox on the other hand seem to do fine. IE11 also seems to be laggy though, so I guess it's an old problem.
Even in my desktop, it managed to crash twice today, not sure how. And some things seem to work in weird ways, for example, right now I hit ctrl+T and the "new tab page" appeared immediately (replacing the current page body) but it took 2 seconds for the tab to actually appear in the tab bar. How does that even happen?
For a browser that they keep insisting has been ultra-optimized for Windows 10 and is totally new and faster than Chrome and all that, it feels pretty sluggish.
-
@anonymous234 I personally find Edge to be rather poor as a browser. It lacks a lot of features that Chrome, Firefox, et al have, and doesn't have any benefits to offset its drawbacks enough.
At least it's standards-compliant.
-
I can't remember the last time I took Microsoft's word for anything, their promises that this would be a wholly new product is no exception. "Optimized for Windows 10" apparently means "it's only available on Windows 10".

I have no idea how to get that to display properly, halp?

It runs 100% on Windows 10, but it doesn't hurt to give it some 91 octane every once in a while.

Not experienced crashing like what you said, is this poorly written antivirus extension or what? Note that my PC don't have antivirus other than Windows Defender installed and no plugins. In my experience Chrome and Firefox crashes more than Edge. Often when some web page apparently containing bugs that it cannot survive in Chrome or Firefox (means crash), it'd be open okay in Edge.
For the "occasionally freeze" problem, yes I've experienced that too. And Edge is noticably more sluggish than other other browser when running javascript heavy pages. This is very annoying and that's why I cannot use it as my daily browser.

"Runs 100%
betteron Windows 10!"If you mean 100% CPU usage even when idle, then yes.
If you mean 100% memory usage with a single tab open, also yes - but the same is true of Cram and Firefux, too.
-
Not experienced crashing like what you said,
Neither have I, and I use Edge as my everyday browser on my work laptop, because raisins. It's awful, but not because of random crashes, at least not while I'm using it. My main problem with it is that if I have multiple tabs open and put the machine to sleep to go to a meeting or overnight, it's a complete crap-shoot what tabs will still be open when I wake it up again. Of course, it's the ones I use the most that are most likely to be missing.
Also, the UI in one of my most often used pages (music streaming) is broken. "Now Playing" and "Recent" never update, and a few widgets are in the wrong place, covering other widgets. (FWIW, IE is similarly broken, but it works fine in Chrome. I don't know if the problem is in IE/Edge or the site implementation (INB4 Why not both?), but I see the problem in Edge, so I'll blame it.)
-
I have another Edge/IE related question.
When visiting some sites, for example http://kecskelany.tumblr.com, Firefox entirely freezes up sometimes.
IE/Edge does too, but after maybe half a minute it offers up a button saying "Recover webpage" which magically fixes everything.
What does that button do?
-
@marczellm said in Edge:
What does that button do?
It loads the page in a Google Chrome browser running in Azure, then sends the output to your Edge browser.
-
"There's this product line that's known for being buggy, broken, shit to use and full of security holes. I just installed the latest version to try it out. It's buggy, broken, shit to use and full of security holes. Does anyone know what the problem is?"
-
@Lorne-Kates If only @FrostCat were here to tell how some of that has been fixed in the latest insider build or @Blakeyrat were here to tell us how Edge is following a standard that none of the other browsers follow or that web devs use.

It is an improvement over IE. When IE froze up, you could not scroll.
My major pet peeve with MS browsers is that they used to default to MSN homepages, and if you did not hit Esc in time, you had to wait for the page to finish loading all of its clusterfuckery before you could download Chrome.
Fucking MSN. Let's see how much shit we can cram on one webpage so that we take forever to load!!
-
@TimeBandit and not even that has worked, so people will not even use Bing if you pay them.

Remember that, according to Micro-Soft, if you are not paying for the product, you are the product.
Just wondering it is when the product is paying you ???

A failure.
Or, a product as shit as spam emails that promise you can make thousands per week taking surveys online.

-
@accalia Why did I never think of that?
Probably because it is only something that comes up when setting up a new machine, which does not happen often enough for me to really care. Plus, I usually catch it in time and just hit Esc and all is good.

@accalia No access to a new Windows install at the moment to check but would you even need the
iexplore.exe
?

Edge has plenty of problems, but what's people's issue with Bing beyond "Micro$oft = bad"? It's almost identical to Google

Every time I tried Bing, the results I got sucked big-time.
While in Google, I found what I was looking for.It is probably better now (I really hope for them) but unless Google search start sucking donkey balls, why the hell would I switch ?
See, there is reasoning.

I was going to do a :opera: talking head joke, and then I realized Opera sucks so much we don't even have a Emoji for it.
And then I was going to do a :fa_ie: joke of them all laughing at Opera, but we don't have Emjoicons for those either?

It's definitely not, especially for non-English searches.

I also haven't changed the default in Chrome on my work PC from Google.

I haven't tried any non English searches, so you may be right there. All I know is I can usually find what I want on either tool
