Ugh, another group pushing their pointless gimmick idea. At least it will never get fund...
€456,294 pledged of €45,000
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!
People really need to carry their portable flying camera attached to their phone in case they feel the need to take an aerial picture of themselves?
-
@anonymous234 I want it, but I do costuming, I'd like to be able to take group shot easier when we're all dolled up. It's too expensive for me though.

What is this world coming to, eh? Will that be two of these for you then?

Those are really shitty photos too, and contrasting them to the professionally shot video does not help them. Small dynamic range, over-saturated, poor low-light performance, and apparently can't make good decisions about what parts of the scene to adjust the exposure for.
Also, the whole point of the video is that it makes it easier to take nice inclusive photos...but I'm pretty sure the sample videos/photos have a smaller angle than many current phones (which are often made for wide-angle shots specifically because of selfies), especially if they were to be put on a selfie-stick.
Neat toy, but the video does not convince me that it will actually achieve its advertised goal.

That looks cool. It's a drone for your phone!

Don't they have those too already?

Can't wait until Disney theme parks and other places have to revise their already heavy rule books specifically ban these things too

Pretty sure rc helicopters / drones are already banned.

The device is equipped with an accelerometer that keeps track of the ball's acceleration. So the ball captures images once reaches its maximum arc because it is almost at a stand still as its velocity and the gravity acting on it are at equilibrium.
In today's news: we're now living in a one-dimensional world and bodies have only a single degree of freedom.
Also, those photos look really off-color. Compare the regular pic:

Even discarding the awful perspective, the white balance is horrendous here.

Probably because it has a rather short time to record the light.

I'm not really a camera enthusiast, but shouldn't that either underexpose the photos, or introduce grain by compensating with ISO increase? This just looks like it has a really bad white balance - perhaps it's overcompensating for the weak light and misestimating the temperature afterwards, or something like this, I dunno.
Then again, those are apparently some cheap-ass toy 2MPix cameras, and the whole thing doesn't even look like it has any controls to set the photo parameters, so maybe I'm expecting too much.
-
@Maciejasjmj there probably isn't enough time for the sensors to perform auto WB...either that or they're absolute hot garbage which, given the fact they have to cram so many in there, wouldn't be surprising

I'm wondering if the green shell contributes. It seems to be thick enough to reflect light on the sides of the indentations where the cameras sit at the bottom of.

Yup, the original price is right in the range of yet-another-scam-that-took-off.
With that price tag it is fucking impossible to get that slick design right, with manufacturing costs and unavoidable waste.I predict 2279 losers, lets wait one year

That seems likely. Solution: paint the depressions white.

Yup, I agree.
Context on the "3D JPEGs" bit - the dude got a bunch of what was described as "3D photos". It was a few snapshots taken while flying one of those camera drones around the house.
-
I can't get over how the words "a bona fide selfie time" are used in the video in a completely unironic way. I want to find whoever wrote that into the script and kick their teeth in. This is worse than the Holocaust. I'm so fucking angry.

Judging by the thumbnail only, I thought it would be fans to blow back your hair so you could take selfies looking like this:
-
@Zecc
Hate to break it to you, but there is no fan in the world that could blow back your hair and make you look like that.
-
@izzion Partially because nobody looks like that. It's clearly shopped
-
@Yamikuronue
Apparently my sarcasm-mojo is lacking these days, everyone is explaining my jokes
-
@izzion Oh, I thought your joke was meant to be, Zecc is neither pretty nor female. I don't know Zecc, but that's usually the joke made.

I honestly thought from the title that this was going to be about a trend in people pantomiming the action of taking a selfie. Am disappoint.

In the spirit of the thread, he's using an expensive and overly-complicated way of doing the simple task of getting his content on the forum.
