Cairngorms

Has anyone been there?
Is it worth the visit?
When is the best time to go there?
-
@Mikael_Svahnberg It'd be helpful if you gave a bit of background info for the folks who aren't from the U.K...
-
@anotherusername what's the fun in that?
I figured that if you do not recognise the name, the answer to the first question is "no", and then you are done. :-)

Oh yes.
Is it worth the visit?
Not if you're looking for sun, sea and sex
When is the best time to go there?
09:42 on alternate Fridays

If it's on earth, probably. There are very few places on the surface that humans have not explored.
-
Googled it - looks like a pretty place. But their website quickly gets annoying - they like to do that micro-zoom thing when you move over an image.

Sooo true. They even explored Canada and some weird ones decided to stay there, in the cold
-
Realistically, I've climbed (well, walked) a few of the peaks there, Braeriach is probably the nicest one (Ben Macdui is higher, but a bit boring), there's skiing at Cairn Gorm (in which case, the best time to visit would be "when there's snow"), the distilleries nd so on are OK but you get better whisky on the isles.
It's cold, windy, and frequently wet.

Not entirely... "is it worth the visit" could still be of interest, potentially.

Decided? No. They got their tongue stuck to a pole.

You think that's weird? Some of them even decided to stay in Alaska of all places, where not only is it cold, you can see Russia from your house!
-
@masonwheeler technically, when you're in Alaska, you're in ex-russian land.
-
@TimeBandit
There is no such thing as Ex-Russian land. Merely colonies of the motherland, colonies the motherland hasn't reconquered yet, and colonies the motherland has yet to conquer.

Are you going for walking or skiing? If the former, probably June–August (depending on when the 30 minutes of good weather actually turns up). If the latter, January–February are best but you're still dependent on the weather.
The rest of the year, it's just usually wet and miserable.
-
@dkf walking, mostly. Swedes have a thing about going abroad for cross-country skiing.
Message received:
 wetter than Manchester.

-
@Mikael_Svahnberg It might even be wetter than Bergen.
