I prefer 50% blue-gray on 51% blue-gray.

@bb36e the primary goal is pleasurable UX, and low contrast certainly IS pleasurable to look at.
who cares about readability, nobody reads anymore anyway.

I personally prefer slight off-white and slight off-black background / text. That said, we're talking something like
#666666on#dedede, and that's as far as I usually go either way.

yeah, right away. The presence of an item in a space between defined columns jumps right out at me. That, and the fact it's green.

this was the clue for me.
it took me a moment to actually read the word "explicit" but i did correctly identify the correct answer to "one of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong" more or less instantly.
