Oooh, and then the follow-on series "Coding Disasters", where our intrepid hero gets to stand around looking put on for 15 minutes while the "client" shows him all the things that are dead wrong about their
application, the "hero" makes some brusque suggestions, one of the "client's managers" gets snippy, vulgar, and defensive in response, and then a big shouting match results in the "cops" being called! All totally candid and 100% definitely positively not staged, just like Jerry Springer!

Yup. Btw, I think that the "Flat UI" theme is uglier than the glossy theme too, and I'm not the only one who shares the thought.
Certainly it make some kind of UI creation much easier, such as multiline table header and buttons, but internally, I feel I'm making the UI for DOS GUI programs.

You and me both.
Shape, apparent texture and colour are all vital cues and the GTK3 flat themes just destroy all of them. I have enough trouble already with eyeballs that skid uncontrollably across fields of icons. Making them all the same colours and roughly the same overall brightness makes that much, much worse.
And while I'm having a bit of a whinge:
is with skinny little scroll bars that pop into view only when you hover over them, obscuring scroll pane content in the process? Every fucking fedora wearing fixie riding three day growth hipster fuckwad UX "expert" with a hard-on for fingerpainters' control surfaces thinks it's somehow OK to ruin the UI for everybody who prefers a real mouse? Fuck that noise.Seems to me that the underlying problem here is that words like "discoverability" and "affordances" are too long for the Twitter generation. We ought to start a movement demanding that a11y = d13y + a9s. Then we might get somewhere.

@flabdablet I don't know if GTK would be better or worse than the reality in this case. We have a custom client-server WPF monstrosity that sends large amounts of xaml around, after generating it by interpreting a 30yo programming language.
