Vonkeror: the new web-browser

  • I used to use Firefox but now I use Vonkeror and I am writing it myself, it is based on Conkeror and XUL-runner.http://zzo38computer.cjb.net/vonkeror/ Please make a comment of it, suggestion, bug report. There is no toolbar, menu bar, icons, menus, warning about phishing, or stupid thing like that. You have to push f12 [ if you want cookie management and f12 ] for bookmarks management. To save a image you push C-] i C-s and it number the images, you push the number of the one you want. There is no tooltip, instead it displays in mini-buffer. Next version: 0.2. I want you to post comment, please.

  •  I fully support this.

Then, can you make feature suggestion and/or bug report also? (and also, if you know anything about Mozilla then possibly you know a bit about implementing it also, to help me with things I don't know about it, especially since a lot of the documentation of Mozilla XPCOM components is not written yet)

    Emacs already has a browser.

  • Oh you gotta be F-ing Sh-ttiing me.

What exactly is so wrong with modern browsers that you can't use one of the existing ones?  FF has a rich add-on component that allows you to add and remove functionality as you please.  (I consider NoScript/Adblock/Flashblock to be removing functionality for the purpose of this paragraph).

  • Alright, after trying your little toy, I'm even more confused.  What exactly is the point here?

  • If you have any question about usage, feel free to ask.

Other web-browser program are too much user-friendly, menu, toolbar, warning about stuff that you should really learn by yourself instead, etc. And I don't like it that modern software is made so the computer tries to think for you, instead of allowing the user to think for themself. That is one reason I made it difference, so that you can think by yourself. Almost everything is done by keyboard and if you can type fast then you can enter the command more faster also. My program is also much more customizable (including keybindings), and you don't have to write a extension. Vonkeror omits most things that are unnecessary, and includes some new features that other web-browser program doesn't have. Some of the features are listed at Vonkeror.txt and I am still making more! The more stuff added to development version on my computer but isn't the posted version yet, is available at next_version.php. I think this makes the Vonkeror much more useful than other web-browser program. I will post screen-shot of version 0.2 so you can see what some new things are.

Does anyone else feel like they're talking to the SonOfSpectate?

Very much so.  Also, perhaps it's only me (it probably is), but the name makes me snigger.  I'm not sure if it's the phonetic similarity to "VONK! Error!", just the syllable Vonk, or that it sounds like a Russian Dictator (I will Vonker you all, I am the Vonkeror!).

I'm sorry, zzo38, not to be more constructive in my criticisms, but I only read TDWTF at work and all non-IE browsers are blocked (yes, I know, I know).

    *giggling madly*

    Should be Wankerror.

  • I guess the main concern I have is: how will this new browser affect my pornography viewing?

Well, I suppose all the shortcuts could be located on one side of the keyboard to allow for single-handed web surfing.

Wait, you mean you guys don't download the porn to your desktop then scroll through it with picture and fax viewer?  F11 FTW!  or Windows Media Player?

    ALT-click download link.

I think he's just trying to create a browser using vi's interface design standards. hence the name Vonkeror ( Vi Konkeror ). Just for those still stuck in the past.

Other people might think of same thing, but that isn't the case. The reason for the name Vonkeror is because I changed the C to the letter to the right of it on the QWERTY keyboard, which is V. I omit useless features and make useful features instead, instead of making too much user-friendly. Please read those files on my web-site for list of some of the features.

That is quite a good idea, but I prefer having a hooker move the mouse for me.

Pfft, I wanna see one that works like ed.  Edonkerer?

And the reason you used "c" is because you thought "Konqueror" was spelled "Conqueror".  Bravo.

  • I'm afraid it's actually some obscure mozilla half-breed.

    http://conkeror.org/

It sounds about just as insane as what zz is doing. However the fact that this conkeror wasn't spartan enough for zz speak volumes.

  • Damn it, where's TopCod3r when you need him?

After he was killed we took his body to a cave that was to serve as his tomb, blocking the entrance with a large rock.  However, when we visited three days later, he had vanished!  Personally, I suspect grave robbers that go around stealing corpses and selling them to Oscar Meyer.  But some of the others think it may have been vultures that can turn into snakes to wriggle around the rock and into the cave and then turn back into vultures and still others think that our failure to draw a map back to the cave may have resulted in us getting lost in the mountains for several weeks until we finally just claimed the first cave we came upon was the one we left TopCod3r in.

  • I made new version 0.2 now. Now there is a preference manager, and displays HTTP response codes, command for dealing with cache, and a few other stuff. But there is still a few bugs in this software, but I fixed some of them. But still you cannot edit HTTP headers, though. Maybe in next version I will add that.
