Is this good or bad?

  • The BBC currently have an "Inflation Calculator" this is supposed to be able to tell you how much inflation has affected you during your working life. You put in a few basic details about yourself and your income and it calculates your personal inflation and charts it. I think I broke it:

     Brady Bunch

Apparently NaN inflation was an endemic problem in the early 1970's as well.

  • Considered Harmful

You're spending more than average on Furniture, you should try and get that level to as low as you spend on Furniture.

  • How do you spend more than average and also less than average on furniture?  Is one room filled with antique masterpieces and the rest with cardboard boxes and buckets?

Comparisons with NaN always return false.

Then how did I spend more on Furniture, household equipment & maintenance, but only less on Furniture?

  • So, it's calculating how much inflation has affected your Nan during her life, instead?

  • The Brady Bunch? Huh?

Obscure reference for old people.  A TV show from the late 60's - early 70's when inflation was much higher than it is today.

Oh, so it was like Mad Money with Jim Cramer?

Actual, truthful values: how many people live in this house, what the household income is, when I finished full time education etc. Take a look

I had 2.2% inflation. I had to lie and say I was in Wales. Also, I had to convert my income from real monies to scrip.

  • @superjer said:

I can only consistently get it to break on Annual Household Income = -1.

  • Aha, I got it to break by entering the pound sign into the income figure, such as £10000 instead of 10000.

Does it work if you use the sign for a real currency? (¥, $, €, whatever Bitcoin uses, etc)

What do you mean a real currency

the £ is older than at least 3 of those currencies by a considerable margin.

The bible is considerably older than the theory of evolution. Does that mean that all scientific discoveries are fake because they're newer?

Of course not. Just the ones that conflict with the Bible.

As in "in common use by a world superpower".  We'll get the Red Dwarf future at some point when the US takes Britland back over and we have the dollarpound.

If the best currency is supposed to belong to the biggest superpower then why aren't we all using yuan?

Pfft. China's no superpower. They're definitely considerably weaker than the US.

Pfft. China's no superpower. They literally own the US.

They only own a little over $1 trillion in national debt. I believe Europe now owns more than that, and so does the Fed.

And it's debt. Sure, when you owe the bank $100k, you're in the shitter because the bank can actually collect on it. What can China do to collect on a debt held in a currency we can produce from thin air? If we were a weaker nation, they could at least try to get it back via military means, but that's a no-go here, so what value does it hold to them?

Now, that's not saying the debt hasn't been a problem, sure, but we've already suffered the costs from eviscerating our industrial base and giving China a leg-up there. It's also valuable as it gives them liquid reserves on which to float their own currency, and nice, regular interest payments, but other than that..

Juan is only a currency in jail, and he belongs to Bubba, who's a pretty big superpower.

Assuming you accept that buttcoins are a real currency rather than a combination of speculation vehicle and pyramid scheme. I'd accept that they have the capability to be used as a currency, but their value relative to the cost of producing them is so far out of whack, and the rate of change of that value/cost relationship so large, that they're only a store of value for the exceptionally brave. But not as brave as you'd have to be to use the Zimbabwean dollar.

The crypto algorithms used are interesting though.

I think we should be putting trigger alerts on any mention of BTC.

  • Hmm, I must have missed the Brady Bunch episodes where the boys and the girls had a competition to see whether they could get more food by spending their allowance now or earning interest in a bank account, but Alice accidentally put half the boys' stock in a giant meat loaf.

    It's more eco-friendly than internal-combustion eels.
